Director of Counseling Services, Health and Wellness Services
Job Description
The Director of Counseling Services in Health and Wellness Services oversees the functional areas of personal counseling, the Drug, Alcohol, and Wellness Network (DAWN), Student Accessibilities Services, Prometric National Testing Center, and Testing Services. This position supervises personal counselors, practicum, and internet students, and front office administrative staff. The employee works independently under the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, and will receive minimal instructions with respect to the details of most assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possess a master’s degree in counseling, clinical or counseling psychology, or social work.
Licensed or license-eligible in professional field within the State of Kansas.
Possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
At least 2 years supervising staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
Clinically licensed within the State of Kansas.
Doctorate in counseling, clinical or counseling psychology, or social work.
Administrative experience in higher education counseling and/or Student Affairs.
Knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
A history of increasing responsible supervisory experience.

Responsibilities:
- Provide direct leadership, staff development, and supervision of university support staff, unclassified professional staff, and student employees in the counseling area within Health and Wellness Services.
- Oversee on-site counseling training program and supervision of practicum and intern students.
- Oversee Counseling Budgets.
- Serve on university committees as assigned including the Behavioral Intervention Team.
- Provide assessment, treatment, community referral, and crisis intervention services
- for students, faculty, and staff (personal counseling)
- Conduct weekly case staffing meetings and coordinate assignment of counseling cases
- Help staff develop and provide campus-wide outreach and prevention programs
- Plan, administer, and evaluate the services of Health and Wellness Services
- Monitor staff caseloads for equitable work distribution
- Review client files for purposes of quality assurance
- Assist in the selection and supervision of graduate assistants
- Link clients with other student support services on campus, as necessary
- Participate in Student Affairs assessment and annual review process
- Assist in managing Point and Click scheduling and electronic medical record software
- Provide oversight with after-hours crisis as needed
