Our Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Pharmacy Manager to join the team. Duties will include ensuring adherence to medicines optimisation policies and procedures, providing oversight of pharmaceutical stock procurement, as well as other associated pharmaceutical duties and have a key role in delivering high quality clinical care and advice to our patients and teams across a range of departments including ICU/HDU, the Pre-assessment clinic, Outpatient Department, Ward, Theatres and Oncology Team.

As a Pharmacy Manager it is important that you will be confident to work independently as well as a member of our larger health professional community, leading a team to always strive to improve the quality of our services for our patients. ​

As a Pharmacy Manager, you will:

• Provide leadership and advice on medicines management to ensure that processes across all clinical departments throughout the hospital are safe, cost effective and legal and are supported by up to date policies, procedures and guidelines. This will include chairing the Medicines Management Forum on a quarterly basis.

• Be responsible for leading, motivating and effectively managing the pharmacy team by providing excellent leadership.

• As the Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, optimise the management of antimicrobials to minimise the occurrence of hospital acquired infections by ensuring pharmacy adherence to up to date policies, guidelines and systems of work. Undertake regular audit of this in conjunction with the IP nurse/nurse team.

• Ensuring the pharmacy team undertake daily ward rounds reconciling medication for new inpatients; counselling patients; managing PODs and checking for relevant allergies, adverse drug reactions and contra-indications to treatment, ensuring all medicines prescribed are clinically appropriate in line with national and/or local policies and guidelines etc.

• Assist and leading the team in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care by dispensing, accuracy checking and clinically checking TTOs, counselling patients prior to discharge and in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care.

• Lead on the implementation of medication safety alerts and drug recalls for the hospital working closely with the Director of Clinical Services.

• Implement and monitor DoH guidance on all aspects of controlled drugs use in the hospital and ensure the CD audit is completed quarterly.

• Ensure errors, complaints and incidents are managed in line with the Nuffield Health guidelines, specifically reporting these using the RADAR system and reviewing/investigating relevant RADAR reports relating to medicines.

• Support the development of other healthcare professionals and deliver medicines-focused training upon request.

Targeted Lung Health Check services save lives and improves the health of our local populations through early identification of cancer and promoting smoking cessation. Eligible asymptomatic participants between the ages of 55 to 74 with a smoking history are invited to attend our mobile CT unit for a lung health check. Your role will be to tackle inequalities by promoting engagement in the programme, particularly amongst "hard to reach" groups and then support participants through their Lung Health check journey. For some this will lead to cancer diagnosis. But early detection from low-dose CT scans using artificial intelligence to enhance image analysis can transform 5-year survival rates from around 15% to around 85%. Incidental findings of raised cardiovascular risk will enable early intervention to help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Clinical practice:

Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse - 12 month fixed term contract

We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced oncology nurse to develop in the role of junior ward manager on the Oncology ward at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a 12-month fixed term contract covering maternity leave.

The role of deputy ward manager is to assist the Ward Manager in providing clinical and managerial leadership on the ward. You will have an opportunity to gain an insight into the ward manager role and be supported to develop the necessary skills and expertise to undertake the job.

We are looking for an innovative nurse keen to develop their managerial skills with the ability to problem solve, demonstrate leadership, and be motivated to support the ward sister in clinical audit and research as well as role modelling and supporting junior team members and students.



The successful applicant should be in possession of or working towards degree level education, and have at least two years’ experience in cancer care. Relevant specialist training in cancer care essential.

Patient Care
• Demonstrate and promote a patient and family centred style of clinical practice.

• Ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act regulations 2010 by adhering to the Care Quality Commission standards at all times raising concerns to Sister/charge Nurse or
an appropriate senior person, (CQC 2010 Guidance about compliance: Summary of regulations, outcomes and judgement framework).
• Ensure the appropriate management of clinical and general waste.
• Ensure staffing resources are used appropriately when prescribing and implementing care and treatments.
• Report near misses and untoward incidents, complaints, clinical emergencies, injury or medicine administration errors as detailed in departmental and Trust protocols and procedures, assist the Sister / Charge Nurse Manager in investigating incidents as required. Be proactive in seeking a response to the issues raised in order to disseminate the actions identified and provide own account of events if asked to support an investigation.
• Demonstrate an awareness of and compliance with Health and Safety Regulations that apply to staff and patients. To escalate concerns to senior staff in an appropriate and timely
manner.
• Be familiar with the Oxford Model of Exemplary Nursing and Midwifery Practice and ensure that key performance indicators are met.
• Maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit co-ordinator.

Duties will include ensuring adherence to medicines optimisation policies and procedures, providing oversight of pharmaceutical stock procurement, as well as other associated pharmaceutical duties and have a key role in delivering high quality clinical care and advice to our patients and teams across a range of departments including ICU/HDU, the Pre-assessment clinic, Outpatient Department, Ward, Theatres and Oncology Team.

• Provide leadership and advice on medicines management to ensure that processes across all clinical departments throughout the hospital are safe, cost effective and legal and are supported by up to date policies, procedures and guidelines. This will include chairing the Medicines Management Forum on a quarterly basis.

• Be responsible for leading, motivating and effectively managing the pharmacy team by providing excellent leadership.

• As the Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, optimise the management of antimicrobials to minimise the occurrence of hospital acquired infections by ensuring pharmacy adherence to up to date policies, guidelines and systems of work. Undertake regular audit of this in conjunction with the IP nurse/nurse team.

• Ensuring the pharmacy team undertake daily ward rounds reconciling medication for new inpatients; counselling patients; managing PODs and checking for relevant allergies, adverse drug reactions and contra-indications to treatment, ensuring all medicines prescribed are clinically appropriate in line with national and/or local policies and guidelines etc.

• Assist and leading the team in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care by dispensing, accuracy checking and clinically checking TTOs, counselling patients prior to discharge and in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care.

• Lead on the implementation of medication safety alerts and drug recalls for the hospital working closely with the Director of Clinical Services.

• Implement and monitor DoH guidance on all aspects of controlled drugs use in the hospital and ensure the CD audit is completed quarterly.

• Ensure errors, complaints and incidents are managed in line with the Nuffield Health guidelines, specifically reporting these using the RADAR system and reviewing/investigating relevant RADAR reports relating to medicines.

• Support the development of other healthcare professionals and deliver medicines-focused training upon request.

The Oxford Eye Hospital (Ophthalmology Directorate) provides expert Ophthalmic care for the population of Oxfordshire, and wider for rarer Ophthalmic indications/disease. The Ophthalmology Directorate covers several key services which are:
• Surgical Ophthalmology - includes Glaucoma, Cataract, Oculoplastics, Vitreoretinal, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Cornea & Ocular Motility.
• Medical Ophthalmology - includes Medical Retina (DMO, RVO, AMD etc.), Ocular Oncology, Uveitis, Neuro Ophthalmology & Ophthalmic Genetics.
• Eye A&E - this is a service specific type 2 accident and emergency department based in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital.
• Oxford Diabetic Eye Screening Programme - this is a national Ophthalmic Screening Programme preventing sight loss due to Diabetes for the population of Oxfordshire.

The Directorate also has designated Optometry & Orthoptics services as well as a very active NHS research team (Eye Research Group, Oxford).

The Ophthalmology Directorate comprises of the largest outpatient subspecialties within the Trust with an annual activity plan of over 120,000 attendances.

Monitor and take action to ensure that all quality, productivity and profitability targets are achieved.

Develop services in line with the Trust’s strategic direction.

In line with Clinical Directorate and Trust strategy, develop best practice, service modernisation and improvement plan for the area, to enhance the patient experience and deliver value for money.

To be accountable for delegated budgets within designated clinical units and ensure the achievement of financial balance.

Support the development and delivery of cost improvement programmes and manage expenditure within designated control levels.

Prepare monthly activity and trend reports for designated Clinical Services to enable accurate forecasting of performance against key financial, service and quality targets and standards.

Assist the OSM in the preparation of business cases for all aspects of the Clinical Directorates activities.

Carry out regular reviews of incidents, complaints, risk assessments and other multidisciplinary audits within designated clinical units, ensuring that appropriate follow-up is taken to address and reduce risk and that learning is disseminated across the unit.
