We are looking to recruit a full time 12 month fixed term - maternity cover Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Pathology Specimen Reception team, based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
The role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant is varied and involves supporting the scientific staff (Biomedical Scientists) in the receipt, data entry and pre-analytic preparation of patient samples, maintaining stocks of consumable items, disposal of chemical and/ or biological waste, and maintaining and decontamination of complex laboratory equipment and as such is a key role in supporting a diagnostic service.

As part of your role, you will be required to participate in the out of hours working rotas of the department - including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/ Public holidays, according to service needs. Core working hours will be from 9:00 to 17:30, 5 days a week with one late shift a week 12:30 to 20:30. You will be required to work approximately 1 in 4 weekend shifts and occasional public holidays.
We are seeking passionate and self-motivated individuals who have an organised approach with good attention to detail and who can remain calm in stressful situations. You will need well developed communication and observation skills and should enjoy working as part of a team.
Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided. A good level of secondary education is required with English, Maths and Science at GCSE grade 9 - 4 (or equivalent).
