The Gastroenterologist must possess an active license in any state or territory in the United States and must always maintain privileges, at the Amarillo VA Health Care System, to be able to work as a physician. The Gastroenterologist must be board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology and maintain professional competency as indicated in the delineation of privileges. All physicians must maintain current BLS certification as indicated per medical center policies.

- The Gastroenterologist will provide comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Gastroenterology, with an additional focus on patients with hepatitis. In addition to patient care, the physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as, education. The Gastroenterology Staff Physician will be located in the Specialty Clinic at the Amarillo VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas.
- The Gastroenterology staff physician should be skilled in providing patient care and in coordinating the activities of other health care providers. The AMSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model (i.e., PACT, Specialty Clinics, Compensation & Pension (C&P), Community Care) and performs clerical duties, customer service and other duties as assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients. • Knowledge and ability to navigate, synthesize and analyze significant amount s of data as well as their potential effect on processes, workflows, and various reporting (i.e. SAIL, access, productivity, etc.).
• Responsible for data and reporting management as it relates to access, productivity, utilization, and supply and demand management. In conjunction with other SMEs, assists to oversee processes and workflows that affect supply, demand, productivity, access, utilization, and other items as they relate to access.
• Coordination design and investigation to enhance improvement, readiness, resilience, and sprints. Reviews and provides guidance to identify strategies to reduce backlog. Oversees and monitors consult management issues and provide guidance to VISN GPMs.
• Ensures and expected to support medical facilities of levels 1, 2, and 3 complexities with the Electronic Health Record Management (EHRM) system by addressing the increasing number of operational needs to adapt to the higher level of resource responsibilities and challenges across different sites, as the Oracle Health system requires a broader and deeper skill set of understanding which requires flexibility and informatics integration.
• Responsible to have systemic knowledge and understanding of the often-interconnected processes and variable that affect access, productivity, efficiency and other VHA priorities, which encompass process improvement, supply and demand management, and data/reporting management and validation
• Evaluate and plan work in short and long-range planning efforts; obtain and consolidate information from programmatic units. Compiling information to be presented to the CMO and DCMO, Board of Directors, and Steering Committee for use in the planning, development, and operation of GPM programs.
• Demonstrates skill in applying analytical methods and techniques used to evaluate criteria for measuring program performance and effectiveness.
• Organizing, coordinating, implementing directing, integrating, controlling and evaluation programs and projects for forecast of opportunities to improve the healthcare delivery system.
