We are excited to announce an opportunity for a talented and reliable chef to join our team as we launch a new Indian-Mediterranean street food concept within our existing soft play cafe in Newport. This unique role combines culinary expertise with a family-friendly environment, offering a diverse and engaging work experience.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership
• Prepare traditional Indian specialty dishes, including non-vegetarian and vegetarian options
• Develop and refine recipes for Indian street food favorites such as mini kizhi porota, fried idly, and tandoori momos
• Lead menu development and enhancement initiatives
• Oversee kitchen operations and staff management
• Operational Management
• Maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation
• Monitor inventory and manage supply orders
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations
• Assist with soft play area management during non-peak kitchen hours
• Handle opening and closing procedures
Additional Duties
• Manage cafe operations, including coffee service
• Operate tills and handle cash transactions
• Assist with staff scheduling and rota management
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
• Prior restaurant or culinary experience
• Strong knowledge of Indian and Mediterranean cuisines
• Proficiency in food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment usage
• Leadership and staff management skills
• Understanding of hospitality and customer service principles
• Ability to maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Indian cuisine, particularly momos and kerela porota
• Menu development experience
• Soft play or child-friendly environment experience
• Essential Qualities
• Reliability and honesty
• Openness to giving and receiving feedback
Certifications
• Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate
• Valid UK Driving License
• First Aid certification
• DBS check
• Understanding of fire procedures, COSHH, infection control, and emergency aid
Details
Pay: As per industry standards
Hours: 38 per week
Schedule: Day and night shifts
Location: On-site in Newport
