What skills and experience we're looking for
The successful candidate will have:
• Basic understanding of food hygiene, safety, and health standards.
• Strong organisational skills to manage stock, maintain records, and ensure a smooth flow of lessons.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Patience and good communication skills, especially when working with students.
• Be prepared to undertake any relevant training as required, to support the function of the post and to enhance personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Preparing ingredients, tools, and equipment needed for lessons and demonstrations, ensuring everything is ready for practical classes.
• Maintain, clean and set up workstations, ensuring a safe and clean environment. Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, such as ovens, mixers, and utensils, - Keep records of risk assessments and COSHH documentation
• Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food supplies, managing stock levels to minimize waste and avoid shortages.
• Support the teachers within the department during practical lessons by assisting students with safe handling of equipment and following recipes or instructions.
• Supervise students during practical sessions, helping to ensure they work safely and hygienically.
• Provide guidance to students, especially during practical tasks, to help them develop confidence in their cooking skills.
• Enforce health and safety regulations in the classroom, including safe handling and storage of food and equipment.
• Maintain inventory of kitchen resources and report any maintenance needs.
• Assist in organising resources and stationary for both Food rooms as well as creating and maintaining visual displays for the classrooms.
