The Obstetric Service covers the Obstetric needs of the entire population of the Hillingdon Area and includes, increasingly, a part of Ealing, Harrow and South Bucks. The annual delivery rate is 4200. There is a purpose built 12-room delivery suite which has recently been refurbished, in addition to the antenatal and post natal wards. The gynaecological out patient services are centralised in the Cumberlege Unit, which includes general gynaecology clinics, colposcopy, fertility, urogynaecology and urodynamics. EGAU – Emergency gynaecology assessment unit including EPAU (early pregnancy assessment unit) which is located on the Cumberlege unit

Medical Students form Imperial College rotate through the department.

Regular departmental meetings for education, audit and administration occur. There is teaching for the junior doctors within the department at lunchtimes through the week. There is an active Postgraduate Centre, at Hillingdon, with an appropriate programme especially for doctors entering general practice.

The post is for 4 months from 03/04/24 - 06/08/24.

Clinical:

Routine ward management, both Obstetric and Gynaecology outpatient attendance with consultant and registrar supervision. There will be on call duties on selected weekend with the internal medicine team. There will be no oncall duties in obstetrics and gynaecology. There are opportunities to develop skills and competencies to those of SHO level under supervision if required.

There will also be opportunity to be involved in clinical audit.

Teaching:

There is regular departmental teaching for junior staff Monday lunchtime and Thursday am in addition to clinical meetings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This job is for 6 months, with a view to extend.

The post-holder will play a key role in realising our ambition to continue to deliver a high quality clinical service by bringing new skills to our Haematology department. The successful applicant will be a committed clinician with sub-specialist interest in Haemato-Oncology and a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training and other qualities as identified in the person specification.

It is a requirement of the post that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation of cycle. Job planning is outlined in point 4, as is a draft proposed job plan.

The post consists of 10 Programmed activities comprised of 8.5 Direct Clinical Activities and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activity. The post-holder will be on call for Haematology covering The Hillingdon Hospital and Harefield Hospital sites on a 1 in 5 on call rota (1 in 4 with prospective cover). This will be one weekday (Monday-Thursday) or one weekend (Friday-Sunday) in 5. Out of hours work is partially covered by the Specialist Registrars but Consultants are first on call at other times.

The department provides the clinical and laboratory haematology service between the two sites of Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital (4 whole time equivalent Consultants). The new appointee will be based at Hillingdon Hospital with a service level contract to provide out of hours on call cover for Harefield Hospital (Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation trust (Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals).

Any applicant who is unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job plan will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Hillingdon Hospital provides a BCSH Level 2B service with in-patient beds at The Hillingdon Hospital, in accordance to NICE guidance on Haematological cancers. Patients requiring Level 3-4 treatments and radiotherapy are referred to Hammersmith Hospital, with whom we participate in the weekly West London Haematology Cancer Network MDT via audio-visual link. Any teenage and young adults are referred to University College Hospitals TYA unit for ongoing cancer care.

There are currently 3 Haematology Registrars on the Imperial rotation for whom we provide Clinical and Educational supervision and a 4thTrust-funded Registrar/Clinical Fellow post. There is a Foundation year 1 doctor attached to the service who is based at Hillingdon.

The new appointee would be expected to have experience and interest in Haemato-oncology, however given the nature of a District General Hospital practice and requirement for on-call they would also need experience in and be competent in general haematology, including managing and giving consultative advice on complex haemostasis and thrombosis, transfusion and haemoglobinopathy patients.

There are extensive opportunities for research and development with the department partaking actively in current commercial and NIHR portfolio of Haematology and Haemato-oncology trials. Participation would be actively encouraged.

The role is the most senior Borough Operational Manager, jointly accountable with the Clinical Director, for the provision of mental health services. Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology

The Hillingdon Hospital is offering and exciting opportunity to join our trust Clinical Fellow Programme. This offers an opportunity for those working at a staff grade/registrar level to train in Cardiology.

This is a 12 month fixed term post, with the option of further extension. The Trust are exploring the opportunity for these post holders to join the North-West London CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) Programme.

Daily activity will include consultant led ward rounds on the Cardiology patients and supervision of the junior team. The post holder will be supported by FY1 and IMT Trainees and will have direct consultant level support.

The post holder will have responsibility for ward inpatients and, as such, will be expected to attend board rounds, ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. He/she will help supervise the ward juniors, help manage the inpatients and help coordinate their discharge planning. The post holder will participate in audit and governance activities of the ward and help deliver teaching and training to junior colleagues, medical students and physician associates.

Staff from the Neonatal Unit also rotates to work in the 6 bedded Transitional Care based on the postnatal ward. This experience will further enhance your experience in nursing low risk special care babies who requires minimal medical intervention. Nurses working in the TCU will gain experience in managing a 6 bedded ward with the support of a neonatal support worker.

Main tasks and responsibilities
1. Clinical Practice

 To work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to develop individual programmes that provides measurable outcomes of patient care.

 To provide high quality holistic care to a defined group of patients/ clients on the ward prioritising workload according to the changing clinical need through throughout the shift. The group of babies will include special and high dependency care babies who require care in:
 oxygen therapy
 intravenous therapy including TPN and / or blood transfusion

 phototherapy
 Ph studies
 specific observation for eg. babies with drug withdrawal/babies of diabetic mother.
 Optiflow (high flow oxygen) and NCPAP babies after receiving training and achieving competency.

 To promote family integrated care and ensure health promotion as an integral part of nursing care

 To provide sensitive support to all parents especially the parents of dying babies and babies with anomalies
