The Department of Perioperative Medicine provides anaesthesia for all surgical specialities and is involved in many exciting initiatives. The Critical Care Unit/s comprises 17 beds. There are 800 - 900 admissions per year. The maternity unit provides an engaging training environment and has 4500-5000 deliveries/year. On calls are on a 1:8 rolling rota and will be in either Emergency theatres, critical care or obstetrics. This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join a first class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range of services to the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment. The post will commence on Feb 5th 2025, and will be for 6 months, with opportunity to extend further by mutual agreement.

An exciting part-time vacancy has become available to cover maternity leave which involves working within core paediatric optometry clinics at Whipps Cross. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Optometrist to join our teams to support our children’s services.

The post-holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Optometry and Ophthalmology teams that provide comprehensive and quality ophthalmology services for the Trust.

You will be based in the Eye Treatment Centre at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The Eye Treatment Centre is a dedicated unit covering all ophthalmology specialties including vitreo-retinal, medical retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculo-plastics, paediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology and we also have a busy eye emergency service.

You will participate in the educational activities run by and for the Optical Services and Ophthalmology Departments. This includes the teaching of other health care professionals, medical undergraduates and junior doctors.

§ To participate in core optometry clinics e.g. paeds and adult refraction, low vision and contact lens clinics


• To participate in the delivery of highly specialist ophthalmic services and extended roles that meet the changing needs of the department

We are seeking Appointment Co-ordinators to join our expanding Central Appointments Office team at Barts Health NHS Trust Whipps Cross. You will be the first point of contact for our patients and represent the Trust with your caring, helpful approach, providing a positive start to the patient pathway.

The Appointment Centre operates between 8.30 – 17.00 Monday – Friday

The Appointments Co-Ordinator is responsible for providing a patient focused, effective and efficient Central Appointments service to our patients & their carers, clinical teams, and core services. Working and rotating across several smaller units within the department, main duties will include registering and uploading referrals, booking & cancelling appointments, dealing with telephone enquiries, managing e-Referrals appointments, cancelling clinics, and amending clinic slots, obtaining Minimum Data Sets, updating patient demographic details, and preparing clinic profile change documentation for submission.

Working in adherence to the Trust Access Policy, Governance, and local Standard Operating Procedures always, the post holder will liaise with a number of key stakeholders to ensure the Outpatient referral and booking process is efficient and fit for purpose and that patients are able to access our services and receive expert clinical care.
