Diamond Ward (Highgate West) is a 17-bed male acute treatment ward. It specialises in the treatment of patients with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, depression and personality disorder, with associated challenging behaviours/risks. The focus is in detailed clinical and risk assessment with a view to starting early effective treatment. The clinical lead for the team is Dr Kavinda Gunathillaka, Consultant Psychiatrist. The post would involves working closely with other MDT members such as nursing staff, psychiatrists, OTs and psychologists.

Tasks would include participating in daily MDT meetings and ward rounds (clinical reviews), clerking in new patients, reviewing patients’ mental and physical health, ordering relevant investigations, performing physical examinations, blood tests and ECGs and participating in the out of hours core trainee rota. The foundation doctor would be working under the close supervision of Dr Gunathillaka, his specialty doctor and core trainees.

The post may be based full time in Diamond Ward or may be split between Diamond and another treatment ward in Highgate Mental Health Centre. If the post is split it will involve 3 days per week in Diamond and 2 days per week in another ward. The post has arisen because of a gap due to the post not being filled by a Deanery foundation doctor.

Activity Worker, Hospital Division

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week (Shifts and some weekend working)

We are looking for highly motivated people to be part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing positive care for our service users across Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust’s Hospital Division, in the role of Band 3 Activity Worker.

Working across acute inpatient, psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), rehabilitation and/or older adult wardat Highgate Mental Health Centre,the post-holder will be supervised by the ward OT and will work with the ward team to co-ordinate a programme of meaningful ward activities based on service user choice.

Training will be provided and post holders will be expected to participate in their own skill development. All ward based staff are required to undertake training in the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA).

The post holder will be ward based, providing a programme of meaningful activity in order to support service user recovery. They will be expected to co-ordinate and run a variety of individual and group activities based on service user choice.

The post holder will liaise closely with nursing and OT staff to maximise opportunities for positive engagement in line with service user care plans.

The working pattern will comprise two shift patterns, including some weekend working.

The post holder will be required to maintain individual service user records and additional information to support audit.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (from job description)

Therapeutic and Recreational Activity
• To coordinate a programme of ward activity and support service users to engage in a range of activity opportunities.

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic people to join our Hospital Division In-Patient Mental Health Services as Clinical Support Workers at our entry level (AfC Band 3) for mental health NHS careers.

These roles involve direct, face to face patient care to acutely unwell service users who have been admitted to an in-patient psychiatric ward.

We are seeking two Band 7 Discharge Coordinators - these are new roles within the Hospital Division.

The Discharge Coordinators will add capacity to the acute in-patient wards through a programme of active leadership in relation to daily actions and tasks to promote patient flow.

Each Discharge Coordinator will oversee flow on four wards, and will have an Assistant Practitioner in situ in each ward to support with patient flow tasks and who will report to them directly.

We have a recent and exciting opportunity to appoint Assistant Practitioners in the Islington Crisis Resolution Team and are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals who enjoy working with acutely unwell service users with a broad range of mental health and social issues.

Covering the central London Borough of Camden & Islington, the team offers an intensive crisis assessment, resolution and home treatment service providing mental health crisis care to our local residents age 18 and upwards. Crisis home treatment promotes social inclusion and also supports the social network in caring for the individual in the least restrictive environment. The Crisis Team acts as an alternative to hospital admission. In order to fulfill this role, the team provides a fully operational 24 hour service, 365 days per year.

Successful applicants will be required to have proven and post qualification experience with desirable acute setting experience . You must be willing and committed to working as part of a 24-hour rota to include weekends. As most of our service user contact takes place within their own home, you must also be able to either drive (we utilise Trust vehicles) or to be able to travel independently via public transport. Although we do work as a team, the capacity and confidence to undertake lone working is essential.

In addition to face to face interventions (brief supportive counselling, crisis de-escalation, assessment), you will also possess strong telephone negotiation and support skills and be part of a rotating staff roster which operates Camden and Islington's crisis single point of access line

Here, our staff are able to successfully support the community by offering a clinically led mental health telephone line which triages crisis calls, helping to problem solve at this initial point of contact whilst allowing colleagues on the ground to focus on delivering quality face to face contacts.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are an expected pre-requisite as is the capacity to utilise all forms of electronic communication. The Trust uses electronic record-keeping throughout all its services and we are working towards becoming a paper-free organisation.
