We are looking for an enthusiastic Radiographer to join our friendly team, to undertake a variety of plain film, dental, fluoroscopy, mobile and theatre examinations efficiently and effectively for our patients, adhering to best practice of radiographic technique.

Working within the Radiology department at the FGH provides excellent opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of imaging procedures including trauma, MSK, paediatrics and oncology. The department is equipped with a Siemens DR room and a Phillips DR room as well as 2 Phillips DR mobiles, two GE image intensifiers and a brand new GE fluoroscopy suite due to open September 2024.

The department carries out of full range of investigations, including MR, CT, US and SPECT Imaging. PACS was installed in April 2007 and updated in 2017.

This is a progressive directorate that supports CPD and role development.

Specialty Doctor – Older Adult Psychiatry, Barrow in Furness (10PA)

We are seeking to recruit a fixed term Specialty Doctor to join the South Cumbria Older Adult Mental Services Team based at Furness General Hospital. The post is full time (10 PAs) and fixed term for 12 months initially and may be extended.

This exciting post combines community with inpatient and liaison work, making it a great opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and gain experience across older adult psychiatry.

For those with Section 12 approval, there may be the opportunity to join the On Call rota, for which additional remuneration will be payable.

The main duties of this post are to provide medical input to the Older Adult Rapid Intervention and Treatment (RITT) and Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) Services. The requirement is for the direct care and advice/consultancy to members of the team, GPs and other practitioners. The setting in which patients are seen reflects their needs; this may be home visits or clinics. The post holder will be expected to adopt a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to patient care according to the principles of new ways of working. The inpatient and liaison element of this role will be at Furness General Hospital.

To be eligible to apply for this post, you must possess at least 3 year’s experience in psychiatry and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.Ideally, you will be Section 12 Approved, or eligible for approval at the time of commencing employment.

This vacancy is an Apprenticeship post. The successful candidate will study the 'Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Theatres pathway)', which is a fantastic opportunity to start a successful career within the Theatres department. In order to be eligible for Apprenticeship funding from the ESFA, applicants must:
• Have the right to work in England.

A unique opportunity has arisen, due to service expansion and development in the Furness General (Barrow) Operating Department, to join the existing theatre team.

Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) providing perioperative care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the RN/OPD.

Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.

Contribute to the on-call service.

We are seeking an enthusiastic person to join our multi-disciplinary team in providing care for patients during their time in the Operating Theatre Department. You will help prepare theatre, support qualified staff with care of patients through all areas and participate in cleaning of clinical and staff areas. Duties include the transport of patients within our department and others.

Participation in provision of a 24-hour service including shift work, on-call, weekends and night duty is a requirement of this post.


The successful candidate will be studying for the 'Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Theatres Pathway)' Apprenticeship, and will be expected to attend college and complete coursework and other study as the Apprenticeship requires. 20% of their working week will be given to accommodate their Apprenticeship study.


This post will be paid as a training post in line with Annex 21 18623.pdf (nhsemployers.org)


(i) up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;

(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;

On assimilation to the pay band following completion of training, the trainee will enter either on the first pay point of the appropriate pay band or the next pay point above their training salary.

Barrow Home Treatment Team is looking to welcome 3 Mental Health Practitioners.

The Home Treatment team work in the community with people in acute mental health distress, they support people in their own home to avoid hospital admission and support early discharge from hospital.

The team are looking for mental health practitioners that are highly motivated and enthusiastic. The successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills. It is expected they would have a good working knowledge of mental health and community services.

Excellent communication skills are essential with an ability to manage change and support colleagues around learning and development.

You will need to be proactive, innovative and able to provide quality care, the service users and carers at the heart of everything you do. In return we will offer excellent supervision, training, support and an environment for you to develop and enhance your current skills.

The Barrow HTT are a 24 hr service working shift pattern of long days including nights, although happy to discuss flexible working patterns.

You will provide a comprehensive assessment and triage service and, where necessary signposting or clear onward facilitation to a mental health pathway. Your referrers will include GPs, Police and Acute Hospital colleagues, self-referrals and referrals from carers. Service users will be triaged collaboratively and a decision will be made in consultation with the referrer and with the use of a clinical tool, the response time required.

This comprehensive, collaborative triage system will lead to comprehensive assessment clear onward facilitation of service users to the most appropriate care following assessment.

The post holder will provide evidence based mental health assessments and/or signposting to alternative service provision for people who present requiring a specialist urgent mental health assessment. The post holder may offer follow-up appointments within the agreed timescale for intervention as part of the on-going assessment process.

*The £7k Welcome Bonus package applies to this role. The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 6 months of employment. This bonus is applicable from 1st July 2024 – 30th September 2024.
