The post will be based in the department of Acute Medicine gaining experience in varying general medical disorders. The post offers excellent experience in general internal medicine, incorporating cardiovascular, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, haematology, neurology, and acute geriat-rics. The doctors work alongside foundation doctors, IMT and ACCS trainees and registrars. Acute medicine doctors work on the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU), and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
The Acute Medicine department at UCLH is consistently highly rated by trainees in the annual GMC survey. With consultants and multiple registrar-grade doctors working across the Acute Med-icine Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Medicine (SDEC) everyday, our doctors are well supported and receive excellent clinical training. According to trainee feedback, we are positive out-liers (compared to national mean scores) in workload, supportive environment, educational govern-ance, rota design, and overall satisfaction.
The doctor will be working in two clinical areas: the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). AMU duties involve attending the morning ward rounds with consultants and registrars, and seeing patients independently with senior medical supervision. SDEC duties in-volve assessing patients in ambulatory care with urgent care needs. There is excellent supervision from senior clinicians at all times.
The responsibilities of the role include
• Providing care to medical in-patients on the 56-bedded AMU
• Working within the wider multi-disciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, ad-vanced care practitioners, pharmacists and nurses to provide excellent patient care
• Providing care to patients in ambulatory care, and taking referrals from local GPs and our own ED to the ambulatory care department
Doctors will be joining in a large team of 24 trainee doctors in acute medicine, and should attend regular departmental training for doctors, which takes place 4 days a week.
