Background to the Post

Warwickshire College Group works in partnerships with the Prince’s Trust to deliver the Team Programme. This provision is offered at a variety of locations according to demographic need and WCG operates across Lincolnshire. In addition WCG also delivers the programme in neighbouring counties; Coventry and Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire and Birmingham.
This post will be based in Coventry & Warwickshire.

The programme is specifically designed to engage with 16-25 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) and provides them with an opportunity to re-engage in learning, participate in community projects, team work and individual work placements. Participants to the programme may exhibit challenging behaviours and the post holder will be expected to work
effectively with this group. The programme gives young people a unique opportunity to work as a team in undertaking worthwhile and challenging activities.

To ensure that all our students reach their potential and are not discriminated against we wish to appoint an assistant Team Leader to provide support to the three Team Leaders on their programmes and cover the delivery of the programme in the Team Leader’s absence.

The purpose of this post is to assist the team leader and provide support to the students on the team programme. Time will be spent with students in the classroom who need extra help to keep them focussed, on task and up to date. The Programme will require the post holder to accompany the students on the residential between 3 to 9 times per year and off-site or to other College centres to undertake projects, enterprises or other activities associated with the course programme. There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks relating to student retention and achievement.

The person appointed will report to the Prince’s Trust Co-ordinator and work alongside the Prince’s Trust team leaders as directed by the Co-ordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

● To provide support in class, or support outside the classroom as directed by the
Prince’s Trust Co-ordinator.
● To assist the Prince’s Trust team leaders with the preparation of materials or
activities for named student use.
● To work closely with the team to ensure that individual student targets are being
monitored and reviewed.
● In conjunction with the team, maintain a system to record named student
progress.
● With knowledge/permission of the Prince’s Trust team leader, make contact with
parents, guardians or key workers of those students under 18, either by telephone
or in writing.
● To act as a trouble-shooter and work with the students to ensure they meet
deadlines and catch-up on any missed work.
● To attend team meetings.
● To undertake training and development as appropriate.
● To accompany and support students during work experience placements, and/or
trips, residentials both on and off site if appropriate.
● To undertake administrative duties which will include keeping own record book,
sending absence notes/cause for concern forms to team members, updating the
team with student progress report.
● Work collaboratively with the team to produce Individual Risk Assessment,
Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and Medical Protocols.
● Contribute to student reports if required.
● Contribute to additional learning support reporting, as required.
● Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults for whom
you are responsible and whom you come into contact with.

Essential Attainments

Early Intervention in Psychosis Team North Warwickshire & Rugby

Full time 37.5 hours.

We have an opportunity for a band 6 Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker to join our well established Early Intervention team as a Care Coordinator. We work with individuals who are experiencing the first onset of Psychosis.

Early Intervention in Psychosis is an innovative and evidence-based model. The teams work with service-users aged 14 to 65 who are experiencing first episode or early psychosis, and their families, for up to 3 years, as well as people presenting with an at-risk mental state. There is a strong commitment to provide an excellent standard of care and to continually improve what we do.

The NHS England Access and Waiting Time Standard has led to significant development within the team. We are undertaking specific skills training with the clinicians to support both the clients’ recovery and the achievement of these targets.

The role involves a detailed initial assessment incorporating the CAARMs assessment to identify at risk mental states (ARMS) or first episode psychosis (FEP). This is incorporated into a formulation to plan the client's care over the next 3 years. The team uses a Recovery philosophy to collaboratively identify the individual’s goals and needs and to support them towards achieving these. Many of our clients experience difficulties with housing, finances, vocational activities and social inclusion and the successful applicant will be expected to work creatively, both with other team members and independently to support the client achieve their goals. We aim to support people to independence so they no longer need input from Mental Health Services.

Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Service (CWPS) have Pathology Laboratories across three Hospital sites: Coventry Hospital, George Eliot Hospital and Warwick Hospital offering services to 1.8 million patients across the region. Departments within CWPS include Chemistry and Immunology, Haematology, Microbiology, Virology and Molecular Pathology, Histopathology, Pre-Analytics including Phlebotomy, and Mortuary services. An exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist Section Manager in Haematology at our George Eliot Hospital (GEH) site in Nuneaton. This role will involve site management of the Haematology Laboratory. You will line manage staff at that site, which will include supporting in creating rotas, performing PDRs and supporting training. You will be responsible for the operational daily running of the Haematology laboratory and will be guided by the Network Haematology Laboratory Manager. You will work in a team of Section Managers at GEH, including the Blood Transfusion Site Lead and the Chemistry Site Lead.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, flexible individual who can lead a team within our Network and drive improvement in turnaround times to deliver a high-quality, first-class Haematology service to our users. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a strong supportive management team for Haematology and Blood Transfusion across the Network.

You will be responsible for the day to day operational management of the site. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the Haematology Site leads on other CWPS sites and with the Network Quality, Training and Performance leads for Haematology.

You are required to be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a relevant Biomedical Science MSc or equivalent level 7 qualification and an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

Detailed responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will match the criteria set out within the Pathology Section Manager person specification:

a) Daily manage and monitor staff in the performance of routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material including blood, urine, faeces, sputum and tissue specimens using complex and highly specialised techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures. Perform such diagnostic tests when necessary.

b) Design and plan departmental rotas, allocate and reallocate work schedules for themselves and the team and determine work priorities to meet service needs.

c) Support the Department Manager in the planning, development, co-ordination and evaluation of the pathology service, and deputise for the Pathology Department Manager as required.

d) Record, and validate results when required. Interpret complex results, and authorise individual reports from the team in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them e.g. Medical, nursing and non-medical staff.

e) Is proficient in the use of the Quality Management system, ensuring the effective development and/or management of all controlled documentation, non-conformities and audit reports within the system.

f) Co-ordinates external and internal quality assurance schemes and supervises compliance with the departmental audit schedules, reviews findings, and implements service changes and improvements where necessary.

g) Manages the propagation and maintenance of all laboratory aspects of the ISO/CPA standards and MHRA requirements, HTA regulations, HSE requirements and any other statutory regulations, and ensure the delivery of services in line with the principles of these standards and requirements throughout CWPS.

h) Ensures quality assurance procedures are adhered to and all necessary internal records are maintained. Collates data for and leads departmental meetings and proposes and implements change as appropriate, ensuring clear lines of communication at all times.

i) Manages and monitors maintenance on routine and complex equipment to ensure accuracy and precision of results. Provides specialist support for staff to troubleshoot faults and take appropriate action to maintain the patient service.

j) Takes responsibility within the laboratory for achieving and maintaining all local and national performance targets. Management of KPIs (key performance indicators) including prioritising work to achieve turnaround times, managing staff attendance, and attaining and sustaining PDR and mandatory training compliance.

k) Collect, interpret and collate in an agreed format, information when required for presentation e.g. for departmental Operational Board reports and quality meetings

l) Propose, oversee and develop the implementation of new techniques, equipment and working practices including supporting any management of change processes which require implementation.

m) Provide and receive specialist departmental knowledge, to and from staff and service users.

n) Manage and maintain stocks of materials, reagents, consumables and equipment, ensuring the most economical use of non-pay resources, identifying areas of cost improvement.

o) Deal with difficult and complicated telephone enquiries, such as complaints, record information and complete follow up reports when necessary.
