Out of hours the post holder will work on the SpR rota including prospective cover.

Paediatric Surgery & Urology is based at the Queens Medical Centre and comprises of eleven Consultants Surgeons (7 General Paediatric Surgeons and 4 Paediatric Urologists) supporting general and tertiary paediatric surgical and urological services in addition to providing local outreach services. All paediatric surgical emergencies are admitted to the QMC usually via the Paediatric Emergency Department. The surgical wards comprise of D34, D35 and E17 in addition to jointly managed patients on PICU and the Neonatal Unit. Main Theatres are located on C Floor and have dedicated afternoon emergency lists as well as access to the Childrens Day Case Unit on B Floor.

The Nottingham Children's Hospital is situated in East Block on D and E floors with 2 Outpatient Departments on B Floor and comprises. Eight wards - 121 beds including critical care. An Oncology Day Case Unit with Anaesthetic facilities. A Short Stay Unit for observation of the acutely ill child. A large hospital school. An Academic Division of Child Health (University of Nottingham School of Human Development). Neonatal Units on both City and QMC campus. A separate Children's Emergency Department.Paediatric Urology service is supported by four urology nurse specialists and seven paediatric nephrologists.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is a major provider of specialist mental health services for older people in Nottingham City and the wider county. The service caters to the needs of all people suffering from dementia, regardless of age; and those, aged over 65 years, presenting with severe and enduring mental health illnesses, such as depression.

Consultants share an on-call rota (currently on a 1 in 8 basis) across the whole of central Nottinghamshire at night, weekends and public holidays. There is a second senior tier of on-call rota provided by Specialist Trainees. This is remunerated at a rate of 2%.

Consultants are required to participate in clinical audit and are also required to attend and to contribute to teaching meetings held weekly during academic term, usually alternative case presentation and journal club discussions.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is highly valued within the Trust. The directorate has a system of peer group supervision / CPD and supporting activity sessions are included in each Consultant’s job plan to support this. In addition, appropriate study leave will be supported and there is a notional annual budget of up to £1,000 per Consultant for approved CPD activities.

The post holder will be required to undergo an annual appraisal. Job planning is carried out by the Clinical Director. It will be mandatory for the post holder to join a Peer Review Group to MHSOP, to develop and oversee the conduct of Personal Development Plans.

Structural Heart Intervention Clinical Nurse Specialist is central to all aspects the clinical pathway (elective and in-patient) for patients being considered for, undergoing and recovering from Structural Heart Valve Intervention. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of care to a caseload of patients independently carrying out clinical assessments
To provide specialist professional nursing service working with patients and their families / carers throughout the patient pathway, providing individualised patient specific specialist support and advice before, during and after TAVI / structural heart intervention
Liaise and work closely with cardiology consultants, cardiac surgeons and cardiac anaesthetists, middle grade doctors and ward staff as well as specialists from other disciplines (respiratory, renal, haematology etc.) and colleagues from referring DGH and Primary Care to achieve the best possible outcome for this complex patient group
To participate in Structural heart intervention MDT and be part in the clinical consideration of patients’ suitability for trans-catheter heart valve intervention and ensuring timely clinical decision making for each individual patient
To be part of the nursing component of the structural heart intervention service, demonstrating advanced interpersonal skills to achieve successful negotiation with senior members of the multi-professional team and other stake holders.



To participate in the provision of specialist nursing patient-centred care, advice and support to patients with structural heart valve disease and their families / carers through the clinical pathway - work up process, treatment and recovery
