The Role and Department
Our Finance Service:
* Supports the University in delivering its strategic objectives
* Works in partnership with Academic Departments, Colleges and other Professional Services to deliver and monitor the annual financial plan
* Provides regular and timely reporting of the University's financial position and performance
* Ensures that the University's Financial Regulations are fit for purpose and that the organisation adheres to them
* Safeguards and optimises assets and controls liabilities
* Processes financial transactions in a timely, accurately and professional manner
Role Purpose:
To gain knowledge, understanding and experience across the three financial teams:
* Financial Planning and Reporting - production of forecasts, Financial Accounting and capital management
* Financial Processing - processing of financial transactions, Accounts Payable, AR and cash Management
* Systems and Projects - month end processing and control, maintenance of financial systems.
To fulfil the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship, the post-holder will be required to complete training on a weekly basis towards and pass the respective AAT at level 2 or 3 or 4.
This is a fantastic development opportunity for somebody who is passionate about developing a career in Finance. The successful candidate will, in addition to having an interest in the financial operations of the University, have the ability and potential to develop and understand basic principle and processes within Finance. The post-holder will undertake a two-year training and development programme, leading to a formal qualification and will gain experience of a fully functional finance service.
The qualification will form part of a development plan, created in conjunction with the successful candidate, taking into account their individual needs.
The post holder will work within the Finance Team on a 2 year fixed term basis whilst undertaking their AAT studies.

From early 2025, the base location for this role will change from our Durham City Centre site to our exciting new professional services hub based at Boldon House. Boldon House is situated on the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me. Boldon House will bring a number of professional services teams together in a vibrant office environment which supports collaborative working and is designed to embrace hybrid working.
