The Breast Imaging Radiology team in East Kent has a longstanding reputation for excellence in breast screening and symptomatic breast services. The Breast Screening service started in Canterbury in 1989 a year after the introduction of the National NHS Breast Screening programme in the UK. We celebrated 30 years of outstanding service in 2019.


The unit is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and also administers screening services for Kent and Medway. The management team includes the Breast Screening Programme manager, Deputy Programme Manager, Principal Mammographer and Office manager, and are supported by an administrative team of staff. Integral to the delivery of the symptomatic breast service will be the collaboration between the general radiology management and clinical lead.

What skills and experience we're looking for

The Post

An experienced and professional Finance Officer is sought for this role in our centralised team, working across our Trust. The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the CFO in managing the day-to-day operations within the Finance Team and managing the duties undertaken by the Finance Assistant. The finance function is centralised, providing payroll and finance services to the three schools it serves.

The role is varied and requires someone who can manage their workload and the workload of the team effectively. They are responsible for ensuring that they and the team completes tasks accurately and within the deadlines set in order that the CFO can produce the monthly monitoring reports

The job role includes: bank reconciliations, VAT returns, daily and month end tasks, procurement and the Sixth Form Bursary. Candidates should have excellent communication and customer service skills; excellent organisation skills with an ability to use their initiative; excellent ICT skills and a high level of professionalism and ability to recognise and maintain confidentiality.

Experience of working within a school and PS Financials is desirable. AAT qualifications are desirable. Training will be provided and opportunities for professional examinations such as AAT are supported and encouraged.

Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) is a multi-academy Trust which was established in 2017.

The post is full time and based at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate. Remuneration is on the ST 3-9 scale with Band IA supplement of on-call duties (Non-resident on-call 1:6 with internal cover). Duties will include outpatient clinics, some laboratory work, and attendance at ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. Attendance at clinics at the QEQM may also be occasionally required on a rotational basis with the Specialist Trainees with whom the successful candidate will work closely.
The post-holder will also see patients on clinical trials or prior to entry into studies and will be expected to be familiar with the running of all the haematological oncology studies that the department is running (see below). Duties will include check inclusion and exclusion criteria and taking informed consent and will need to be up to date with GCP training. Attendance at National (such as BSH) and potentially International (such as ASH and EHA) meetings and other appropriate educational meetings is encouraged.
• Provision of a first class clinical service.
• Conduct clinical practice in accordance with the highest ethical and clinical governance standards.
• Provide support to other clinical specialities.
• Contribute to education and training of undergraduates, post graduates and staff members.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team and clinical governance meetings.

The community nursing service provides case load management for housebound patients to support their nursing needs and enabling them to self-care. Nurses within the team are supported to develop advanced skills to manage the complexity of patients seen.

Community nurses are also supported through the Specialist Practitioner course, recognising community nursing as a specialism within the NMC.

As a Band 6 Team Leader you will work closely with the people who use our services, families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services.

As a specialist SLT, you will assist in the supervision and training of more junior team members, assistants and students. This post is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital but the successful post-holder will be prepared to change base-site to the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford following relocation of stroke services in the future.

As part of the role, we are pleased to be able to offer varied clinical opportunities across all three sites, quality improvement projects and highly skilled supervision and mentoring.

With the new incoming stroke funding we are looking forward to expanding our specialist stroke care across a seven-day service, with regular groups, training and research opportunities, and embedded collaborative working with the MDT and external partners. The successful post-holder will be a key member of the SLT team involved in the development of an expanded stroke service.
