1. Clinical Duties

1. To contribute to the provision of a specialist service to the Oral, and Maxillo-Facial and Orthodontic Consultants and their staff at HHFT.

The post holder will be directly accountable Dental Laboratory Supervisor. This is an excellent opportunity to be embedded in a large tertiary surgical service and to further skills in the perioperative care of major surgical patients. The successful applicant would be expected to deliver full on call pattern within Critical Care and then an even split between Anaesthetics and Critical Care for the remainder of the shifts. Anaesthetic shifts will exclusively be in either Peritoneal Malignancy or Hepatobiliary theatres. From a practical procedures point of view the vast majority of these patients receive thoracic epidurals, and full invasive monitoring including subclavian CVC lines.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital, the oldest hospital in England with some of the newest facilities, is home to world-leading cardiac and cancer centres, providing state-of-the-art treatment to our patients in the very heart of the City of London. We perform cardiac and thoracic surgery on a wide range of patients from across North East London and beyond, including patients requiring complex aortovascular and congenital surgery. We have recently commenced robotic cardiac surgery alongside our existing and successful thoracic robotic surgery programme.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on the provision and delivery of pre-operative care to both cardiac and thoracic surgical patients. This will include providing effective communication between clinical teams, and acting as a point of contact for patients and their next of kin.



As a key member of the surgical team they will use the integrated care pathway (ICP) and supporting protocols as a framework for the decision making process to safely prepare for surgery and improve the quality of patient care.



The post holder will function as an autonomous practitioner providing an expert level of care, including advanced assessment of patients and the initiation of treatment and investigations as required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to join the cardiac team at Barts Heart Centre.

You will have the opportunity to develop your medicines management skills, working closely with medical and nursing staff on a wide range of medicines management matters tooptimisemedicines use across the site.

With the implementation of ward based dispensaries for all wards and a pre-admission drug history service, you will assist the team in further developing the continued expansion of the service and implementing initiatives in line with the Carter review.

You will gain experience in counselling patients, conducting audits and ensuring optimal medicines management across the site.

This is a 6 month fixed term role based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, working 37.5hours per week including 1 in 5 weekends.

There is a need for close coordination with the wider specialist MDT to pre plan medicines required for our patients at ward level through the implementation of an efficient medicines management system. This will include the assessment of patient’s own drugs, conducting medicines reconciliation, counselling patients about their medicines and coordinating the supply of discharge medication.

The role will also involve the training and supervision of junior team members and dispensary based responsibilities.

• To co-ordinate the efficient and smooth running of operational pharmacy aspects of dispensary based clinical trials at St. Bartholomew’s hospital
• Support the clinical trial coordinator to ensure all documentation including standard operating procedures are relevant, in date and according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements
• Contribute to service development programmes and maintain systems consistent with GCP requirements.
