The Technology Operational Risk Senior Consultant acts as a second line of defense by working with business peers and Risk Management partners in all aspects of identification, measurement, monitoring and control of operational risk and ensuring that CIBC continues to meets the key requirements of the sound practices for the Management and Supervision of Technology Operational Risk. As a key individual contributor to the business unit, this role has the authority to recommend changes to assigned business units and related business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Accountabilities include:
- Fulfill the role of CIBC’s second line of defense in the management of operational risk by challenging the business lines’ inputs to and outputs from CIBC’s risk management, risk measurement and reporting systems. This is a key role in managing and maintaining the relationships with the supported businesses in the three lines of defense model and it requires a thorough understanding of the business as well as the ability to provide the effective challenge up to executive level in a constructive manner.
- Provide ongoing oversight and assessment of technology and cybersecurity operational risk and control exposure through the use of various risk identification and assessment tools. The operational risk and control framework tools are a key enabler of CIBC’s risk program and as such, the proper application of the tools are an important part of CIBC being able to manage and monitor its risk profile. In addition to applying the tools, the role is also expected to provide input into improving the tools as part of a continuous improvement process.
- Provide independent challenge to business line assessments and analysis of technology and cybersecurity operational risk and controls and identifying lines of inquiry and review. As technology operational risk is inherent in all business activities, the review and challenge process requires the ability to complete this activity for assigned business groups on a continuous cycle.
- Maintain and enhance deep technology and cybersecurity Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in a number of technology related domains (e.g. cloud, network, virtualization, data management, DevOps, APIs, cybersecurity, etc.) to provide credible challenge to business lines and risk partners.
- Support to the entire US Technology Operational Risk team where the application of their specific area(s) of technology expertise is required. Work on activities (e.g. scorecards, risk assessments, analyses, reporting, etc.) that support the Director of US Technology Operational Risk and other members of the Operational Risk Management team
- Collaborate with the business units and functional groups to ensure that control and technology and cyber operational risk policies, procedures and standards are communicated across CIBC and to provide appropriate education and training. CIBC’s control and operational risk programs are Bank-wide and as such the policies, procedures and standards must be communicated in an effective manner to large numbers of employees at all levels throughout the organization.
- Provide technology and cybersecurity operational risk and control advice to business lines on technology risk priorities, industry best practices, and emerging trends to enhance risk mitigation strategies. This requirement includes the ability to work with senior leaders and experienced colleagues.
- Perform detailed research and analysis to deliver technology and cyber risk insights and document them for communication to various audiences. All documentation produced should be at a level of quality to be presented to senior leaders within the Bank.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of subject matters expertise in Technology, Information Systems, and Cyber Security, including deep knowledge in, but not limited to: Cloud, Network, Virtualization, Technology Infrastructure, Data management/Analytics, DevOps, APIs, Cybersecurity, compliance with industry framework such as NIST CSF, FFIEC, ITIL, DCAM, and metric development and measurement such as RAS, KRI, KPI.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manipulate large volumes of data to draw meaningful conclusions. Strong knowledge with end user computing tools for data analysis and reporting.
- Highly proficient in writing reports and including presentation to senior management and leaders.
- A team player and relationship builder who can work with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and/or initiatives simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Bachelor's Degree in the field of Technology, Information Management, Information Security, Data Science, and other related fields.
- Industry recognized technology certifications in their Subject Matter Expertise are preferred such as CISSP, CRISC, CISA, etc.
