An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the acute therapies team within Epsom Hospital. The role consists of supporting the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams to provide assessment, treatment and rehab for a wide variety of patients within the acute inpatient setting.
There is opportunity for clinical learning and the role sits within a team full of highly skilled and experienced therapists. The team covers most inpatient areas within Epsom hospital and therefore has a diverse patient group varying from elderly care/frailty, surgical, orthopaedic, respiratory and hyper-acute clinical areas.
The role of a therapy assistant is to work closely with the qualified therapists to provide hands on treatment to patients including physical rehabilitation and promotion of independence. The assistants are also vital in supporting the team to run day to day. This role provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our patients.
Epsom and St Helier provides a range of rehabilitation services within Epsom Hospital.These work closely together and in collaboration with other agencies to provide a dovetailed service to mainly Epsom and surrounding residents with rehabilitation needs.
This role is to assist Therapists in providing a high standard of therapy services to in-patients at Epsom and to undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the therapy departments and service.
All new support workers, including therapy Technical Instructors, are required to undertake the Care Certificate, which is the start of the career journey for Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs). The aim of the Care Certificate is to ensure that all new and existing support staff are taught and can demonstrate the right skills, knowledge and behavior to provide high quality compassionate care.

• To provide specialist and skilled assistance in the delivery of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services for adults and older people.
• To plan, review and independently implement specialist rehabilitation and enablement programs for a variety of clients in varying settings, within a defined area of competence.
• To work closely with Multidisciplinary Teams and other professionals, particularly in relation to patient mobility and enablement, including assessment for and provision of appropriate equipment, and to assist in the development of good working relationships with statutory, voluntary and independent organisations.
• To be able to recognise change in the condition of a patient and monitor the patient’s response to any treatment undertaken. To provide effective feedback to therapists and Multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
• To assist with the care of patients including supervising drinking, toileting, dressing and undressing, using principles of enablement
• To be responsible for competent use and maintenance of all equipment used, to identify and appropriately dispose of walking aids to be condemned, and report defects in other equipment immediately
• To undertake some administrative tasks particularly related to record keeping, filing, photocopying, supplies, errands and message taking in consultation with therapists
