On 1 October 2017, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was created from the merger of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM). On 1 April 2021 North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) also merged with MFT. These mergers were founded on a desire to deliver significant improvements in health outcomes and healthcare for the people of Manchester and surrounding areas.
We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.
The Trust comprises of ten hospitals across seven separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

The clinical coding department at MFT work as one collaborative team, with a strong emphasis on team work and supporting each other and working towards our shared aim of highly accurate clinical coded information.
How will I be supported to develop and flourish in my Clinical Coding career?
Following your introduction to clinical coding through the departments excellent coder induction training, your continued professional development will be supported through delivery of a rolling training programme of specialty workshops, mandatory training and examination/revision support with some of the best learning and education materials on offer and expert advice from our resident trainer who has a national profile in clinical coding having worked at regional and national levels in coding for some 25 years.
We also have a supportive programme of audit and improvement for our coding teams, helping us to achieve continual high standards, the MFT coding team recently achieved level 3 DPST coding quality scores, placing it at the highest level for coding quality in the NHS.
