We are looking for a Clinical Trials Assistant to take on an exciting new role, based in the Orthopaedic Research Team but working predominantly with the Newcastle Retrieval Centre based at the Freeman Hospital.

The successful candidate will be based in a small team providing a multi-disciplinary, integrated tissue / implant service within the Trust. Which will develop links with industry, academia and NHS organisations and be able to rapidly answer clinical questions which demand analysis of patient tissue. This will be both an expansion and amalgamation of the existing Newcastle Orthopaedic Retrieval Service (NRC) and the Tissue and Explant Analysis of Medical Implant Failure (TEAM) services to incorporate a range of surgical specialities.

The role will provide an opportunity for the post holder to expand upon their current skills and experience; handling and processing patient samples, contributing towards the expansion of research delivery to beyond the current surgical specialties and working with university based scientists as they analyse samples as we work towards answering important clinical questions.

• You will be part of Corporate Finance Division, which oversees credit evaluation, cash and investment, foreign currency hedging and bonds issuance.
• Your main role will be to assess the financial health of LTA’s contractors and service providers by performing financial evaluation and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• You will also be involved in the reviewing and streamlining of LTA’s evaluation framework; digitisation of work processes; and partnering LTA’s other divisions to provide financial advice related to risk management and mitigation measures.
• Depending on performance, you will also have the opportunity to explore and realise your potential through involvement in other corporate finance functions and initiatives, such as liquidity management, investment of LTA’s reserves, foreign currency hedging and issuance of LTA Green bonds.
• Suitable candidates may be considered for a permanent role upon completion of contract.

[What we are looking for]
• Tertiary Qualification preferably in Accountancy, Business, Finance, Economics or other relevant discipline
• Experience in financial statement analysis or credit evaluation preferred but not required
• Interest and/or experience in performing descriptive and predictive data analytics using Business Intelligent tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) and Open-source scripting languages (e.g. Python)
• Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
• Analytical and detail oriented with good writing, communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently with guidance and adhere to timelines

The role involves working closely with medical and nursing staff, and other associated health professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists and Audiologists and Cancer Services.

Post holders will be required to provide an efficient administrative service to the clinicians and their teams, under the supervision of the Senior Medical Secretary or Team Lead. This will include some audio typing, or other kinds of letter production, as well as fielding patient queries over the telephone, contributing to diary management, waiting list management and theatre scheduling. The ability to work independently and follow the policies and procedures for your department is essential. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, reliability and must have an organised approach to work.

• Working within a team of administrative staff to provide a comprehensive support service to Consultants, Medical Staff and other clinical members of their team e.g. Specialist Nurses and Therapists.
