PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The hiring salary for this position is $32.60 - $40.75 hourly.
This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical Benefits as well as accrue paid time off and receive 11 paid holidays.

Under the direction of the Manager of Risk Operations and Property and Casualty Claims Adjuster, handle and administer general liability, automobile liability and commercial property claims, including all aspects of claims investigation, adjustment, and subrogation functions for the Risk Management Division.
Sets up new claim files in the Risk Management Information System (RMIS)
Plans and conducts investigations, including site visits, on claims to determine liability and damages
Assesses insurance coverage and applicability of Colorado Governmental Immunity Act on assigned claims
Confers with Adjuster, management & legal counsel on potentially volatile claims
Establishes claim reserves and adjusts/updates as necessary
Determines subrogation and restitution recovery potential from 3rd parties
Prepares and submits subrogation demand packages or restitution requests and negotiates settlements for damages
Advises Safety of hazardous practices and/or equipment and trending losses to assist them with mitigation of future incidents
Maintains claim records, notes & documents in the RMIS
Performs additional duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education:
Experience:
A minimum 3 years’ experience in claims, including experience with general liability and commercial property claims.
Possesses demonstrated technical knowledge of general liability, property, and subrogation claims.
Knowledge and experience with Colorado Governmental Immunity Act preferred.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of applicable State and Federal statutes; best practices for claims handling; general understanding of standard coverages in Commercial General Liability and Commercial Property insurance policies.
Knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point as well as general familiarity with an RMIS.
Exceptional communication skills and de-escalation techniques for handling difficult people and sensitive/emotional situations.
Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with claimants, employees, citizens, attorneys and third-party administrators.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills.
Self-starter capable of working alone or with others.
Uses discretion and independent judgment in claim handling.

Physical Demands:
Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; vision for review and analysis of data and reports; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees, claimants and citizens.
