Biomedical Engineering is committed to delivering the next generation of medical diagnostic and treatment technologies and protocols. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees including co-delivery of a large Joint Educational Programme in Biomedical Engineering with North-Eastern University, China.
Research in Biomedical Engineering is focussed through the Centre for Medical Engineering & Technology (CMET). CMET is a joint initiative between the Schools of Science & Engineering, and Medicine. It brings together anatomists, clinicians, engineers, physicists, and surgeons to develop world-leading research and knowledge exchange.
The Professor of Biomedical Engineering will be a key appointment for the School, providing strategic leadership for the discipline. This Chair will take the role of Head of Discipline (three years in the first instance). They will be expected to further strengthen and expand collaboration between Biomedical Engineering and key clinical partners in NHS Tayside and in the School of Medicine. Heads of Discipline in SSEN work alongside the School Executive Group to form the Senior Management Group for the School.
Your priorities will include:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to solidify Biomedical Engineering as a leader for stakeholder- oriented education, research, and knowledge exchange
- Nurture a student and staff community in which people can thrive, and innovation and excellence can flourish
- Develop existing and foster new relationships with national and international partners
- Deliver an outstanding contribution to research activities at the highest level
Who we're looking for:
- An outstanding track record in research including successful PhD supervision, impactful research outputs of internationally excellent quality, and significant external funding
- Evidence of the successful leadership and organisation of learning and teaching activities across a programme
that provides students with integrated, translational learning experiences
- Demonstrable ability to work collaboratively with others including clinicians with a track record of senior leadership across discipline boundaries
