Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, SRE to join our dynamic team. As a Director, SRE, you will play a crucial role in leading our efforts to enhance the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems through innovative development practices. Your primary focus will be on driving the development work within the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, with a specific emphasis on reducing toil and automating repetitive tasks for the SRE ops organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of software engineers and SREs.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support for the team.
- Ensure successful project delivery through effective leadership.
- Collaboration and Strategy:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for reducing toil and improving system reliability.
- Drive the design and implementation of tools and automation solutions.
- Define and implement best practices for software development within the SRE team.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Champion a culture of innovation within the SRE organization.
- Encourage experimentation and adoption of new technologies and practices.
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure effectiveness and drive improvements.
- Subject Matter Expertise:
- Act as a subject matter expert on SRE development practices.
- Provide guidance and thought leadership to the broader organization.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical Skills:
- 15+ years of industry experience.
- Proven experience in software engineering, emphasizing reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or similar, and familiarity with software development frameworks and tools.
- Deep understanding of site reliability engineering principles, including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and incident management.
- Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible, and configuration management systems.
- Leadership and communication:
- Strong leadership and management skills, demonstrated through experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about complex technical challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Transparency is crucial in fostering trust and alignment within the team and across the organization. It ensures that everyone is informed and understands the reasoning behind decisions, fostering a culture of openness and accountability.
- Managing a team effectively to deliver SRE development goals involves setting clear objectives, providing guidance and support, and fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment. It requires strong leadership, communication, and transparency to ensure that the team is motivated, engaged, and focused on achieving success.

- Ability to stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies related to site reliability engineering and development operations.

The annual U.S. base pay range for this position is: $205,962.00 - $308,944.00
