Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK sites, which includes but is not limited to Reading, Portsmouth, or Poole.
Salary: up to £68,098 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The Real Time Systems Design and Delivery (RTSD) Engineer, reporting to the lead RTSD Engineer, will play a pivotal role in interpreting business and customer requirements to turn them into technical solutions and deliverables whilst ensuring that all policies and standards are met.
- Management of multiple concurrent projects of various dimensions will be an integral part of this role and therefore stakeholder collaboration at all levels, priority and time management are essential aspects of this role .
- Solutions may range from a single secondary distribution control system to a more complex multi-site data acquisition, monitoring and control systems that includes provision of end-to-end connectivity from the plant to the Control Room SCADA, over wide area networks via optical, copper, or wireless technologies.
- You will play a vital role in design assurance and technical project management along with undertaking other allocated tasks of the technical services department.
We have an established process for design and delivery, however, there will be opportunities to develop and produce new processes, procedures, and solutions. The ongoing technology and delivery strategy is a team effort, and this role will be expected to strongly contribute.
Your Skills and Experience
To be an effective member of this diverse and multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will:
- Hold a degree, (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, such as Computing, Science, Electronics or Engineering. Due to the technical nature of the role, previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Be capable of taking ownership for technical design and delivery of substation automation, telecommunication, and related services from inception to completion, adhering to the process, policies, and standards.
- Have hands-on experience in configuring RTUs, IEDs, networking devices, media converters etc. and will demonstrate competency in most common Serial/TCP based electrical utility SCADA protocols. Familiarity with telecoms and telemetry systems will be an added advantage.
- Be required to manage multiple projects and resources across several sites therefore the ability to adapt with changing workload and business priorities is essential. You will also have to be self-disciplined with excellent organisational skills, capable of working on your own initiative and to deadlines within high pressure environments.
Further to the technical requirements, you will be safety focussed with excellent written and verbal communication skills; you should be comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
The role will be office based, however the role will require regular travel to substations, sites, supplier locations and other SSE offices as required so a full driving license is essential.
