The role of an academic at the Singapore Maritime Academy is both challenging and deeply rewarding. We are seeking individuals who not only possess comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in the maritime industry but also demonstrate a genuine passion for nurturing and guiding students. As a lecturer, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the maritime sector by developing curriculum, introducing new courses, and engaging in consultancy and applied research projects. Administrative duties related to teaching and contributing to strategic initiatives of the School/Institution are integral aspects of this role. Successful candidates will be expected to be resourceful, innovative, and possess excellent communication skills.
The candidate is expected to develop and teach for students from Diploma in Marine Engineering as well as students who are undergoing training to achieve Certificate of Competency.
[What you will be working on]
Responsibilities:
• Conduct, review, and develop teaching and assessment materials, and facilitate learning for Pre-Employment Training (PET) and Continuing Education and Training (CET) students.
• Ensure that new/existing teaching curriculum modules are aligned with the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch-keeping (STCW) Convention and the practices of the maritime industry.
• Collaborate with industry to enhance students’ learning through activities such as industry field trips, student-industry projects, internship programs, and overseas programs.
• Serve as an advisory role to the Technical Executives to ensure equipment and training facilities are updated and operationally-ready for practical training sessions.
• Serve as a consultant/expert/specialist in critical maritime domains and provide guidance and train staff in technical domain job scope.
• Participate in Internal and External Quality Maritime Education and Training (QMET) audits to maintain and improve the quality of education.
Support polytechnic and school events, including education counselling, guidance, and outreach activities.

Requirements
• Holds the Marine Engineering Officer Class 1 Certificate of Competency issued by MPA or relevant authorities.
• At least 6 years of working experience within the maritime industry.
• Self-driven, independent, and possess readiness to work as a team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment.
• Passionate about education and possess a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students.
• Demonstrates leadership and supervisory skills.
• People-oriented individual with good interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
