As a Supervisory Environmental Engineer GS-819-15, you will:

• Conceive, plan, organize, direct, and control, professional and technical engineering services and long-range programs and projects required to identify, evaluate, and control environmental hazards at the NIH due to physical, chemical, and biological materials.
• Evaluate, manage, and control general solid waste, hazardous wastes, medical/ pathological wastes (MPW), and mixed low level radioactive wastes generated at NIH.
• Conduct surveillance and analytical procedures to characterize potential environmental impact and develop necessary specialized equipment, technical systems and programs, and service contracts to comply with Federal, State, and local environmental, hazardous, and solid waste laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
• Serve as the primary manager for the NIH NEPA compliance program, performing assessments and making recommendations on Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and the final records of decision.
• Provide leadership and expert advice and consultation on environmental protection and enhancement issues to the Director, ORF and to NIH senior management and policy committees.
• Oversee and direct contract operations and coordinate the contract efforts within the DEP. Meet personally with professional staff of major contractors, visits contract facilities, reviews progress, and provides guidance to the DEP staff as part of the staff review on the technical efficiency and operational effectiveness of contract activities.
• Represent the DEP, ORF, and NIH in meetings and conferences with senior officials and representatives of other Federal agencies and private sector organizations as necessary, in order to plan, manage, coordinate, and oversee the programs and functions of the DEP.

A current Professional Engineering license OR current registration as a Professional Architect in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico is preferred.

Our Design Leads are responsible for large projects or programmes of work, managing between one and three Project Leaders as well as specialist multi-discipline designers to deliver for our clients.

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be accountable for the design of a programme of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover. You will:

- Lead the design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.

Your typical duties and responsibilities will include:

- Preparation and/or supervision of the development of drawings for plant general arrangements, power single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, instrumentation loop diagrams, P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, and cable, instrument, and I/O schedules.
- Managing the interfaces and integration of the EICA design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation, including user requirement specifications / control philosophies, tender documentation, schedules and design reports.

You will serve as a Supervisory Mechanical Engineer and be responsible for the design of mechanical systems and supporting the initial assessment of system functionality, requirements, development, concept design, and able to lead or complete mechanical detail design activities. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Starting at $130,301 Per Year (GS 13)

• Serves as 2nd Assistant Engineer on a diesel powered, seagoing hopper dredge and is responsible for the proper and continuous operation of all engine room machinery during assigned watch.
• Stands on regular scheduled watches in the central control monitor room of the engine room.
• Make routine inspection of all engineer spaces and equipment including dredge pumps, bow thruster, steering gear and areas.
• Starts stops and adjusts engine room equipment as necessary.
• Observes pressure and temperature gauges and alarms and listens for sounds which indicate abnormal operating conditions.
• Supervises and/or performs the operation, routine repair and maintenance of all engine room equipment and assists Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer with major repairs.
