Job Description
Job Summary: The Engineered Systems Segment Chief Engineer leads and manages the design, development, testing and delivery of complex aerospace, defense, energy, and environmental systems. Develops, implements, and monitors appropriate goals, policies, practices and procedures, and all other duties as assigned. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Lead the technical team in the design, development and testing of aerospace, defense, energy, and environmental systems, ensuring they meet or exceed customer requirements.
- Develop and implement engineering processes, standards, and best practices to ensure technical excellence across all projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project management, quality assurance, manufacturing, and business development.
- Participate in strategic planning activities to help define the company’s technical vision and roadmap and cultivate future core capabilities.
- Plan and formulate aspects of Internal Research and Development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, government regulations and company policies throughout the product and services development process.
- Manage technical risk and ensure that appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
- Support business development efforts by providing technical expertise during the proposal development and customer meetings.
- Lead the technical development and mentoring efforts for the engineering team. Evaluate and identify training needs.
- Prepare reports for a wide-ranging audience from department level to Board of Directors
- Interacts with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at various management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to inspire and gain cooperation of others, to conduct or aid others in conducting presentations or to exchange information.
- Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job provides leadership and mentorship to multiple engineering disciplines which may include the direct supervision of others. The Chief Engineer will provide leadership and support to all Engineered Systems locations. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required in technical discipline(s); mechanical, electrical, chemical, aerospace, optical, software, or systems engineering. Master’s degree is preferred. Position requires a minimum of 20 years’ engineering/supervisory/management experience. The previous work experience for this can be in both government contracting and commercial environments.
Other Essential Duties
- Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
- Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)
Other Qualifications
- Must possess a Professional Engineers License from the State of Alabama
- US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
- Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately _+/-20__%
