We're looking for a Contracts Manager to join our Engineering Commercial team at Neville Hill TrainCare Centre. This isn't just another job—it's an opportunity to be at the heart of our operations, working closely with the TrainCare Centre production team to ensure the smooth management of third-party fleets, including the prominent LNER IC225 fleet.
Imagine yourself as the key player managing critical customer relationships, where your day-to-day tasks involve leading review meetings, keeping performance on track, and swiftly addressing any commercial issues that arise. You’ll be the driving force behind ensuring all contract and lease agreements or variations are approved and executed flawlessly, always in line with DfT/RNP guidelines and internal processes.
Your role will also see you collaborating closely with our Finance department to ensure every financial aspect is accounted for and budgets are strictly adhered to. Whether it’s negotiating depot access arrangements or managing the depot change process, you’ll be at the forefront, ensuring everything runs like clockwork.
But it doesn’t stop there. You’ll also manage the commercial elements of third-party work at Hull BG and maintain crucial relationships with RTS at Holbeck, making this a role with real breadth and impact.
Key responsibilities:
As the Contracts Manager, you’ll need to hit the ground running in the challenging yet rewarding role. Here’s a glimpse of what your day-to-day activities could include:
Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with third-party suppliers and customers in alignment with public sector and industry standards.
Conducting regular structured contract reviews with our customers, stakeholders and third-party suppliers, utilising SLA and KPI data to assess performance.
Reviewing and analysing financial targets, providing forecasts and action plans to meet or exceed set targets.
Driving procurement efforts for existing and new business opportunities
Identifying and managing risks and opportunities related to contract renewals and changing NTL requirements.
Representing Northern and chairing meetings as required, managing agreed-upon actions promptly.

We’re also looking for the following:
You will have a thorough understanding of contract principles, budgets and finance.
Contract management experience – Essential
Supplier management experience – Essential
Managerial qualifications - Desirable
Experience / understanding of Procurement / Supply Chain practices would be advantageous.
Rail industry knowledge would be advantageous.
This role will be based at Neville Hill TrainCare Centre, and you’ll need to be on-site 2-3 days a week with some scope for remote working but you'll have the opportunity to travel to various Northern Trains depots and supplier locations, giving you the chance to make an impact across our entire network.
