QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over forty countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over fifteen of these countries.

The Role
As a Systems Engineering Manager reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for developing Systems Engineering Processes, identifying best practice across the Department and supporting the Head of Engineering in delivering excellence in this area.

Day to day you will lead, plan and direct a small team of highly professional engineers with responsibility for Systems Engineering within the business.

• Executing systems engineering activities including requirements management, product compliance demonstration and validation and verification activities in line with company processes and contributing to facilitate the success of the future development projects.
• Work with the Customer Accounts Team to capture customer requirements and manage this through the bid and project life cycle.
• Approving technical documentation such Technical Proposals, Programme Qualification Plans, Flight Test Plans/Procedures, Flight Test Reports and other product/project technical documentation.
• Manage engineers personal development plans/performance and recruitment of new engineers into business.
• Provide technical leadership to projects where appropriate, ensuring successful Integration of inputs from subject matter expert from across the Engineering Department.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and internal stakeholders including the Field Services Team.

This role is full time, 37-hour per weeks, with a flexible hybrid working arrangement. You may be required to support Flight Test campaigns with estimated 10% travel overseas.

Essential experience of the Systems Engineering Manager

• Significant relevant Systems engineering experience (ideally in an aircraft or missile development environment at platform leve)l through the full project life cycle from initial proposal through requirements development, design, testing, qualification, certification and production release phases.
• Programme / Project Management Experience; technically managing projects, working with Project Managers to ensure time, cost and quality expectations are met.
• The ability to decompose and effectively manage and integrate multiple product requirements within a multi-discipline environment (Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical & Software etc).
• A strong understanding of Systems Engineering Principles and Experience of Systems Integration & Systems performance evaluation through application of Verification & Validation methods
• Previously held technical approval authority / delegation (desirable).
• Extensive leadership and team management; planning, organising abilities with focus on project plan execution.
• The ability to manage a complex network of stakeholders, external contractors and customers.
• An understanding of safety and airworthiness as relevant to the Aerial Targets Industry (desirable)
• Exposure to Model Based Systems Engineering (desirable)

Qualifications for the Systems Engineering Manager

• You will be degree qualified in a relevant Engineering Discipline
• Have Chartered Engineer Status or working towards

The role

As a Aerospace Engineering Manager, you will report to the Head of Engineering. you'll have direct responsibility for both managing the Aerospace Engineering team, as well as providing technical expertise to our cutting-edge new product development (NPI) field including the Banshee NG (Next Generation).

Day-to-day you'll:

• Lead, plan, and direct a team of highly professional engineers, working in a design / development and analysis technical environment.
• Provide technical leadership to projects, ensuring successful integration of inputs from subject matter experts within the Aerospace Engineering domain and work closely with Programme / Project Managers / engineers, and other business functions, in the delivery of technical solutions, on time, within set budget milestones, and to required quality expectations.
• Line manage the Aerospace Engineering team, including the creation of personal development plans, and recruiting into the team, when required.
• Review and approve technical documentation, including design reports, drawings, flight test plans, and other product / project technical documentation.
• Ensure that Engineering activities are delivered in line with company procedures, and assist in the development of improved processes to facilitate the success of future development projects.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and internal stakeholders, including the Field Services team.
• Develop and mentor junior employees, to facilitate future growth of the business.
• Provide support to flight trials / customer flight tests, with estimated 10% travel overseas.

This role is full time, 37-hours per week, based at our Ashford site, with hybrid working options.

Essential experience of the Aerospace Engineering Manager

• Experience of managing complex engineering projects through full life cycle, from initial proposal, up to production release.
• Possess high level technical understanding of the some of following disciplines: Aerodynamics, Aerostructures, Aeroelasticity, Flight Dynamics, Composite Materials development, alongside broad aerospace engineering knowledge,
• Have experience of working with Project Managers, ensuring projects are kept 'on track' and within project parameters (cost, time, scope, resources, etc.),
• Possess a strong understanding of other engineering disciplines, to enable effective systems integration, preferably having previously been part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team,
• Have strong leadership and organisational skills, with previous proven line management experience,
• Have had exposure to managing customer expectations / requirements, and presenting engineering solutions

Qualifications for the Aerospace Engineering Manager

• You will have a degree in Aerospace / Aeronautical engineering, and extensive relevant engineering experience, ideally in an Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial System or Missile design environment, at a platform level.

QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.

QTS is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and operation of advanced target systems for live-fire training exercises and weapons test and evaluation. Reporting to the Vice President, you will have direct responsibility for leading a significant cross-functional project, initially focusing on evolving our current Aerial Target technology into broader Unmanned Systems applications.

The role

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager reporting to the Director of Operations, you will build upon the experience you bring to the role, instilling best practice in manufacturing engineering activities

Day-to-day, you'll drive development and refinement of production systems, process and tooling; resulting in reduced lead times, Cost of Goods (COGs) and increasing productivity.

• Establish systems for the identification and quantification Identify of sources of waste throughout the production activities on site, running a portfolio of improvement projects to minimise
• Provide balance to the production process flow by ensuring effective batch size and take time information is maintained on the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
• Identify opportunity and collaborate with production engineering to optimise structure and standardise product Bill of Materials (BoM)
• Bring direction and training to the broader operations and site team on waste identification and reduction, lean6σ tools and techniques and productivity improvement, using influence and data to resolve complex multifaceted challenges
• Optimisation of production layout, providing an identifiable product flow, flexibility to support a portfolio of products and minimisation of transportation, waiting and movement wastes
• Design and develop flexible work cell design supporting the portfolio of products and minimising time for reconfiguration to support the build plan
• Continuous improvement in Work in Progress (WIP) and Final Test yield, implementing Poka-Yoke solutions
• Conduct pFMEA for manufacturing processes, ensuring suitable controls in place to mitigate

This role is full-time, 37-hours per week, and based at our Ashford site.

Skills and experience of the Engineering Manager:

• Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015)
• Successfully run Lean6σ projects. Ideally Black Belt
• Demonstrable project experience for production area design and layout
• Strong analytical skills and financially numerate
• Complimentary experience in a production management or production engineering role
• CAD package experience
• Solid understanding of ERP systems
