Job Description:
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures associated with environmental, health and safety of drum management and reconditioning operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all environmental permits necessary for the operation and manufacturing of drum reconditioning and drum management.
- Manage the following environmental programs: Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, Air Permit, Stormwater, Wastewater, and EPCRA Tier II. This is inclusive of inspections, recordkeeping, and reporting.
- Maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) which coordinates legal requirements and compliance tasks, establishes environmental objectives and targets, determines roles and responsibilities for environmental activities, and maintains a document and record system.
- Serve as a subject matter expert when collaborating with outside regulatory agencies.
- Ability to multi-task, maintains flexibility, and works independently with minimal supervision
- Contribute to the development of EH&S standard operating procedures, specifications and guidelines that drive a strong safety culture.
- Design standards, processes and systems/tools to drive consistency, efficiency and quality of the EH&S system.
- Research new EH&S technologies and procedures that could be utilized to improve the EH&S performance and culture.
- Lead key teams for alignment with the EHS Management System criteria which demonstrates the organizational commitment. These teams serve to empower individual contributors and front line supervision while informing management and the executive committee.
- Lead and participate on EH&S walkthroughs and drive corrective and preventative actions.
- Identify continuous improvement activities relative to EH&S and champion solutions aligned with site and department metrics and business objectives and strategies.
- Effectively facilitate EH&S training and presentations including new employee orientation and external contractors.
- Participate in any preliminary hazard assessments (PHAs) and/or hazard and operability (HAZOPs) studies of processes and/or materials per Corporate Procedures and guidelines.
- Conduct accident, incident and near-miss investigations to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain continuous oversight of all facets of work-place safety, including accident investigations, report compliance, OSHA logs, and facilities corrective action lists.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biological Science, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health or other related field of study preferred
- Certifications Preferred: ASP, CSP, 49 CFR DOT Hazardous Materials Shipper Certification
Knowledge and Skills
- Direct and intimate knowledge of applicable laws and regulations including OSHA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, SPCC, National Pretreatment Program, SARA Section 311/312 (Tier 2 Reporting)
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Outstanding organization skills.
- The ability to effectively communicate to all hierarchy levels. Ability to provide feedback to all levels within the organization.
- Ability to identify hazards and unsafe work practices and or able to recognize processes subject to safety/environmental regulation.
- Ability to train and coach employees on issues relating to EHS and to troubleshoot EHS concerns.
- Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
