About the Role

Role & Team Overview
The Senior Data Engineer role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. This position involves leading a cross-functional agile delivery team within the Corporate Data Engineering team, ensuring alignment with current work practices, and driving innovation. Additionally, the role contributes to the design, build, and support of the Enterprise Data Platform.

What you’ll be doing

• Advise, guide, and coach team members.

• Provide technical advice and thought and innovation leadership that will inform data product design and business strategy and improve ways of working.

• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Architects to design and implement large-scale analytics platforms, supporting the business in deploying effective data solutions.

• Develop strong relationships with business stakeholders, including the business owner, to understand AGL’s strategy and be a trusted advisor and technology partner.

• Technical Asset Ownership, Performance, and Security Management.

About you

• Proficient in Azure DevOps (VSTS) for CI/CD provisioning, GitHub for source control, and Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.

• Sound industry experience or similar role, with experience in data engineering leadership or leading data delivery teams.

• Experience leading agile delivery teams and designing/building data platforms.

• Strong SQL, data analysis, and ETL/ELT skills.

• Experience with Azure/Microsoft cloud data platforms and exposure to Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Data Lake, Power BI, and Analysis Services.

• Exposure to programming languages like Python and Scala is desirable.

• Ability to develop stakeholder relationships and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Passion for leveraging new technologies to enable strategic outcomes and solve complex business problems.

As the Lead Engineer – Gas and Battery Storage in the Integrated Energy Team, you'll be at the forefront of this renewable energy revolution and be responsible for leading engineers to support the battery storage assets and gas flexible generation assets.  You will be providing discipline-based asset management expertise to ensure asset risks are identified and effectively managed, compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, and the upkeep of asset plans to maximise asset performance of over asset life cycles.

What you’ll be doing:

• Developing and maintaining Renewables Asset Management Plans aligned with Asset Management Strategies and the requirements of the business procedures in accordance with ISO 55000.

• Reviewing asset risks and implementing effective risk management plans with control measures to mitigate risks and ensuring compliance with AGL Asset Management Standards and systems are proactively maintained.

• Sponsoring and conducting asset related investigations including formal Root Cause Analysis investigations and acting as a point of reference and technical approving authority for managing changes in assets.

• Proactively undertaking asset related reviews and testing to ensure compliance with licence obligations.

• Maintaining effective working relationships with Regulatory Agencies by responding in a timely manner to issues with the National Electricity Market (NEM).

• Developing and coaching a small team to ensure core competencies are developed and maintained.

• Leading the way in embedding and delivering to the renewable’s leadership team strategy and expectations.

• Ensuring that all Health, Safety and Environment Systems and goals are communicated and adhered to while meeting AGL’s policies and standards for HSE management.

What you’ll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications preferably in Electrical Engineering as well as a Chartered Professional Engineer with previous power generation experience and an understanding of the NEM and current regulatory environment preferred.

• A strong understanding of asset management principles supported by a qualification in ISO55001 is highly desired coupled with both financial and risk management.

• Experience in effective team leadership including, management skills, coaching, mentoring and strong technical leadership.

• Strong commercial acumen, business planning, change management and process improvement skills as well as analytical and conceptual skills for the effective delivery of projects and contract management.

• Proven interpersonal skills with high quality written and verbal communication skills that can be used across all levels of internal and external stakeholders.

As the Senior Electrical Engineer – Wind in the Renewables Engineering team, you'll be at the forefront of this renewable energy revolution and be responsible for the provision of discipline-based asset management expertise to ensure business unit asset risks are identified and effectively managed.

This role will include compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations and the upkeep of asset plans to maximise asset performance of over its life cycle and be responsible for the electrical engineering support of Wind assets within the Renewable Engineering team. 

The role is a 6 (to 9 month) secondment based in either Melbourne or Adelaide with routine travel to operational sites expected.

What you’ll be doing:

• Reviewing wind asset risks and implement effective risk management plans with control measures to mitigate risks.  This also includes implementation of target controls identified.

• Ensuring compliance with AGL Asset Management Standards (aligned to ISO55000) and systems are proactively maintained, and relevant industry standards applied for wind and balance of plant assets.

• Conducting asset related investigations including formal Root Cause Analysis investigations and acting as a point of reference and technical support for managing changes in assets.

• Project managing identified scope of works including liaison with contractors, project coordination and project reporting, as well as new project development in operation and maintenance whole of life costs for new projects.

• Maintaining effective working relationships both internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations and upkeep of asset plans to maximise asset performance.

• Ensuring that all Health, Safety and Environment Systems and goals are communicated and adhered to while meeting AGL’s policies and standards for HSE management.

What you’ll bring:

• Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering as well as CPEng or eligible to be chartered, or able to register for the National Engineering Register.

• Technical experience with wind electrical generation assets is highly desirable.

• Experience in asset management principals in particular ISO55001 Asset Management highly desirable.

• Strong technical and problem-solving skills and prove track record in delivering reliability and efficiency improvements in wind assets.

• Proven interpersonal skills with high quality written and verbal communication skills that can be used across all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
