We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 4 Therapy Assistant to join our Medicine Therapy team.

As a therapy assistant you will work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to ensure a high quality, patient centered approach. The role involves working closely with patients to optimise their ability to perform activities of daily living and to maximise independence, ensuring a safe transition from hospital to the community. The role will also include non-clinical administrative tasks which will include record keeping, data collection, admin tasks and equipment maintenance.

The position can be physically demanding and requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate some understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a therapy, hospital, or care environment, however. No professional qualifications are required, but previous experience as a Therapy Assistant and basic English, Mathematics, computer, and email skills are required for the role.

The Research Nurse/Clinical Trials Practitioner is an autonomous specialist working within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of a clinical research portfolio comprising of in-house, national and international phase II and III clinical trials in oncology and haematology malignancies.

Responsibilities will include education of patients and colleagues, coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data and monitoring of the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities. The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and the relevant disease sites. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient’s advocate.

The post is clinically based to support research in all oncology and haematological malignancies, and post holders will be expected to provide cross cover for members of the team.

Research
• Coordinates and conducts in-house, commercial and non-commercial national and international phase I, II and III clinical trials.
• Involved in submitting new clinical trials for ethics and Research and Development approval.
• Creates and maintains trial site files.
• Creates and maintains files of current protocols and patient information sheets/consent forms in the appropriate clinics and departments.

Clinical

Echo fellows will be taught transthoracic critical care echo cardiography imaging, interpretation and integration in clinical practice to a level 2. They will become members of a fully functioning critical care echo service that runs 7 days per week performing every ICU echo. Candidates will be supported and expected to reach appropriate level 2 qualifications. These fellowships are designed to last 18-24months, though candidates with sufficient skills and logbooks may complete in 12 months. See job description for more details The theme of the translational research topic will cover infection and immunology. Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential. It is expected that the fellow develops wet laboratory skills including cell culture and flow cytometry. Alternatively, if a fellow has prior laboratory experience and a testable hypothesis they wish to explore, they will be supported in delivering this. Clinical research projects would focus on hyperinflammation, cancer, cardiovascular system or infection. Previous fellows in this post have presented their work at international conferences and published their work in peer reviewed journals. The fellow will be supported in pursuing a higher research degree (MD or PhD) if they wish to. UK and overseas students are encouraged to apply, and there is GMC sponsorship program for eligible candidates. All applicants must have good experience in Critical Care Medicine, though backgrounds can vary and sufficient airway skills to be the airway responder. Candidates should have achieved competencies to ST5 training year and FRCA, FFICM (or equivalent). UK based trainees must seek approval for SSM ST6 placement, OOPE or will be supported in applications to the RCoA and GMC for OOPT / OOPR approval as appropriate. Previous critical care experience with appropriate airway skills is essential for this post. Additionally, candidates would ideally either have previous research experience for the research fellowships or have at least basic echo skills for the echo fellowships. This post for a Team Leader / Senior Clinical Research Nurse (TL/SCRN) under the supervision of Professor Lovat is to undertake two separate roles:

The first, and more strategic part of this role will be to support in leading the development of the Gastrointestinal Services Research Support Team at UCLH. The team requires the TL/SCRN to direct line management of UCLH employed research nurses (x2) and joint leadership of clinical trials practitioners and data managers employed by UCL. The post holder will help support and develop this team and will coordinate the work that they do in collaboration with the PIs. This should take approximately 50% of the post-holder’s time.

The second role is to work with the Upper Gastrointestinal and Endoscopy Research team at UCLH within a multi-disciplinary team. The post will involve leading recruitment of various GI studies. Professor Lovat is leading in building an Endoscopy database that aims to support current AI Studies and future projects. The successful postholder will maintain their own portfolio of studies in addition to their management responsibilities.

The post will involve working with GI research team which includes two clinical research fellows, one senior trial coordinators, and two UCLH clinical research nurses. The successful candidate will act as the team leader and oversee the work that the team members undertake. For the wider strategic role, the post will involve working with a much wider group of support staff and clinical fellows.

Responsibilities will include helping to screen and recruit patients, co-ordinating the care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of samples and collection of trial data, working closely with the radiology department and the clinical research facility team. It will also involve coordinating and running meetings, setting strategic targets, offering leadership in meeting the targets and coordinating interactions with the Joint Research Office (JRO) which is the R&D office of UCLH and UCL.

Candidates are invited to apply for our highly sort-after posts aimed at senior trainees / post-CCT doctors in Critical Care Medicine. There are two types of posts: the first a post designed to teach echocardiography to an advanced level whilst integrating that skill into everyday critical care practice; the second is spent developing and deliver a critical care research project either translational or clinical. Approximately just over 50% of time is spent on critical care shifts and just under 50% is spent on fellowship time on echo or research accordingly.

We have posts for either echo or research. We offer a 12-24 month fixed term contract with a start date of September 2024, November 2024 or February 2025. We will also consider applications beyond that time and for the correct candidates, there may be an opportunity to extend.

Based at University College Hospital, successful applicants will combine clinical duties with developing complementary skills in the field of critical care: Critical Care Echo & Ultrasound or Research. Clinical duties include being a senior trainee on the Intensive Care (level 2 and 3 care) or covering outreach and under the supervision of Critical Care consultants. This post will be an opportunity to be part of a world renown multidisciplinary team working with general medical or surgical patients and specialist services including haematology (including TTP/HUS, HaemOncology, HLH, and CAR-T cell therapies), oncology, infectious disease and Cancer Surgery.

The key feature of the post is the opportunity to undertake the fully funded specialist fellowship with opportunities to learn or develop specialist skills related to intensive care. Fellows will join specific programs in Echo (predominately transthoracic) or Research. Substantial time is dedicated to the development of these skills. The Fellowship has been designed to allow ICM ST6 trainees to undertake their SSM year. For the appropriate candidate we can support bespoke fellowships. The rota is banded at nodal point 4 or 5 depending on candidates competencies assessed at application, interview and at intervals in post.

Echo fellows will be taught transthoracic critical care echo cardiography imaging, interpretation and integration in clinical practice to a level 2. They will become members of a fully functioning critical care echo service that runs 7 days per week performing every ICU echo. Candidates will be supported and expected to reach appropriate level 2 qualifications. The theme of the translational research topic will cover infection and immunology. Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential. It is expected that the fellow develops wet laboratory skills including cell culture and flow cytometry. Alternatively, if a fellow has prior laboratory experience and a testable hypothesis they wish to explore, they will be supported in delivering this. Clinical research projects would focus on hyperinflammation, cancer, cardiovascular system or infection. Previous fellows in this post have presented their work at international conferences and published their work in peer reviewed journals. The fellow will be supported in pursuing a higher research degree (MD or PhD) if they wish to.

UK and overseas students are encouraged to apply, and there is GMC sponsorship program for eligible candidates. All applicants must have good experience in Critical Care Medicine, though backgrounds can vary and sufficient airway skills to be the airway responder. Candidates should have achieved competencies to ST5 training year and FRCA, FFICM (or equivalent). UK based trainees must seek approval for SSM ST6 placement, OOPE or will be supported in applications to the RCoA and GMC for OOPT / OOPR approval as appropriate.

Previous critical care experience with appropriate airway skills is essential for this post. Additionally, candidates would ideally either have previous research experience for the research fellowships or have at least basic echo skills for the echo fellowships. Candidates will need to demonstrate self-motivation and excellent time management skills.
