The Isle of Wight Specialist Teacher Advisory (STA) Team is part of the wider Education, Inclusion and Access Team and is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI) to start as soon as possible.
The role is peripatetic and is to work with children and young people with vision impairment (0-25 years) across the Island to promote their communication development, inclusion, empowerment, progress and raising of achievement. You will support children and young people and their families in homes, early years settings, mainstream, special school, and post 16 settings.
The VI team consists of a QTVI and a Qualified Habilitation Specialist and is part of the wider STA Team including Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People (QTOD) and a Communication Support Assistant.
Our team is person-centred, creative, and committed to high quality communication and teaching across all modalities. This is a rare opportunity to join a small, well-regarded, friendly, and supportive specialist teacher team.
In addition to being a Qualified Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you will be expected to have extensive classroom experience. You will be committed to inclusion and making a difference to pupil outcomes. You will also appreciate the importance of teamwork within a peripatetic service and be able to show evidence of supporting colleagues.
Applications from qualified teachers willing and able to undertake fully funded mandatory QTVI training will also be considered, particularly if you have knowledge of the wider field of special educational needs and preferably hold the SENDCo qualification.
This role will involve a significant amount of travel by car, for which a mileage allowance is made, and you must be able to fulfil this requirement.
