Salary: £32,217 - £48,516
Hours: 35 per week
Portobello High School is a six year comprehensive based in the East of Edinburgh with a school roll of over 1400 young people, drawn mainly from five associate primary schools – Brunstane, Duddingston, Parsons Green, Royal High and Towerbank.
The school was rebuilt in 2016 and enjoys a high standard of accommodation close to rail, bus and road links. The school has well-established links with its community and the proximity of Edinburgh College, four Universities and all that the Scotland’s capital city has to offer gives scope for the development of further partnerships. Significant investment has also been made in digital technology to support effective learning and all staff and all young people have their own iPad.
Our improvement plan reflects local CEC and national priorities. There are a wide range of opportunities for staff to engage in high quality professional learning. We are firmly committed to raising attainment and promoting achievement and the school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. The school places a great deal of emphasis on the importance of building positive relationships with young people and has introduced a number of innovative approaches to strengthen these. This post represents a great opportunity for the right person to join a large staff team and work in a truly comprehensive setting. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team in a forward thinking and committed department which enjoys good uptake in the senior phase. In Broad General Education (BGE), young people are mainly organised in mixed ability groupings, with personalisation and choice in S3 before pupils progress onto a Senior Phase offer, which we are continuing to diversify to further meet the needs of learners. The department is well resourced and accommodated, offering all SQA Science courses from National 4 to Advanced Higher, in addition to a wider range of courses.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
