We are very excited to be recruiting for a Senior Student and Family Support Worker (Offsite Learning Provision) at Rowhill School. Rowhill School is a Pupil Referral Unit serving 13.5 secondary schools across North-East and East Hampshire. We have capacity to work with approximately 82 students on our roll at any one time and work with upwards of 50 students through our outreach programmes either in their mainstream schools or their homes. Students are referred to Rowhill School for a variety of reasons including being medically unfit for school, emotionally vulnerable, at risk of permanent exclusion or because they have been permanently excluded from school.
This is as an exciting opportunity to be part of the introduction of an offsite learning provision designed to support students who are struggling to attend their mainstream school. The successful candidate will provide in home support for students tailored to whatever need is preventing them from successfully attending their mainstream school and once ready will support students to return to their mainstreams in liaison with home school staff. This is a developmental opportunity and as the provision grows it is envisaged that the successful candidate will have the skills to lead a team of Student and Family Support Workers to effectively deliver this provision.
The aim of this role will be to work with students, their families in their homes and in liaison with their mainstream school to support their learning and emotional needs. This will involve working in a variety of ways to build relationships and overcome barriers to attendance, learning and engagement. The role will include visiting students in their homes, working on a one-to-one basis with students both on and off their mainstream school site, and working with staff in mainstream school to plan their return when ready.

The successful candidate will be educated to at least GCSE level and have proven literacy and numeracy skills, having achieved Grade 4, or above, in Maths and English. The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate accurate record keeping, resilience, resourcefulness, initiative, good time management and patience.
Desirable experience:
• Experience of working with students who exhibit challenging behaviour.
• Understanding of how to support children to make progress in their academic and social, emotional learning.
• Experience in supporting a wide range of student needs.
• Good knowledge and understanding of literacy & numeracy up to KS4.
• Understanding of the importance of equal access to education.
• Excellent administration and communication skills both written and verbal.
• Excellent I.T. skills.
• Experience of working well in a team as well as being able to work independently with little supervision successfully.
• General understanding of the secondary curriculum and how mainstream secondary schools work.
• An understanding of the barriers that face students who have been or face exclusion from their school.
• Experience of working with secondary aged students, their parents, and other agencies.
Essential:
• Understanding of safeguarding children.
• A current clean driving licence and access to a car (this job will require the role holder to travel between student homes and mainstream schools).
