We are looking for dedicated and hard-working Learning Support Assistants to join our ASC Centre team at Oxford college.About the role
The successful applicants will be supporting students with Autism and other associated difficulties on courses which are designed for those with Autism and associated difficulties or supporting students to access their course. These courses are from Foundation Level 1 courses to Level 3 courses. There will be an expectation to support in all areas.
You will be responsible for facilitating individual learning programmes, providing support to our learners in small groups and 1-1 activities when attending the ASC Centres. You will be required to facilitate the students learning using creative and purposeful lesson planning in collaboration with the ASC Coordinators to meet the needs of the learners. You may also be required to support learners to access learning on their course within the mainstream learning environment and off-site activities.
Personal care can form part of the duties included in this role and training will be provided.

In this role your duties will include provide statistical analysis plans for studies and handle day-to-day planning to keep the work on track and efficient and the performance of integrative analysis of single-cell RNA and ATAC seq data. To support the research endeavours effectively, you will develop or customize analytical tools and resources in collaboration with other team members and attend to scientific seminars, meetings and training as appropriate.

It is essential that you hold a degree in a life science or computational subject, together with demonstrable experience and ability in biostatistics or bioinformatics. Applications are invited for a Research Assistant neuronal cell biologist to work on a project to target calcium channels in Parkinson’s disease. The project, funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation and in collaboration with Lario Therapeutics, represents an exciting opportunity to undertake translation work at the interface between academic research and pharmaceutical target and drug discovery in an exceptional setting. This work will develop new inhibitors of calcium channels as a neuroprotective strategy to protect vulnerable dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s working with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived dopamine neurons generated from Parkinson’s patients.

Duties will include undertaking laboratory experiments; biochemistry, immunocytochemistry, cell and molecular biology; growth and differentiation of iPSC lines; interpretation of data; imaging analysis; and preparation of data for publication. You will have excellent practical experience of working with neuronal cell cultures and good knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is essential.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work on a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary project to develop transgenic rodent models of Parkinson’s disease. The work will support projects seeking to use rodent models of disease to understand the earliest stage of neurodegeneration at a point in which neuronal dysfunction precedes neuronal loss, offering an early therapeutic window for therapy. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, and is supported by the Wellcome Trust and an international consortium funded by an Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) grant.

Duties include colony management, breeding and maintenance of lines of transgenic rodents; collection of brain tissue for gene expression analysis; general laboratory management, preparation of data for publication; contributions to wider project planning and determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses. You will have a good working knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, excellent practical experience of working with animal models and an interest in pre-clinical in vivo models of neurological disease. Previous experience of the management and maintenance of transgenic rodent lines would be an advantage. This role provides an opportunity to work with a team of scientists developing vaccines (adenovirus vectored, recombinant protein, VLP-based, etc) and advancing knowledge on a range of infections, including rabies, COVID-19 and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

The Cragg Group at the University of Oxford are seeking a Research Assistant to join a project funded by the MRC to explore the role of astrocytes in the regulation of dopamine function in health and parkinsonism.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Cragg group and will assist with studies to elucidate dopamine transmission, its regulation by astrocytes and related signaling molecules in mouse brain, in models of Parkinson’s disease. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with the Cragg Group’s internal and external partners and when appropriate, give advice and guidance to other members of the Group. The candidate will have responsibility for conducting, analyzing and interpreting scientific data generated from experiments, ensuring that the data are of the highest quality.

In addition to having, or nearing completion of, a first degree in a relevant science, candidates should have laboratory experience and some knowledge of the field of neuroscience. The candidate should also be able to manage their own research and administrative activities. The candidate needs experience of following and adapting protocols and selecting appropriate experimental methodologies. Experience of working with mice is desirable.
