We are looking for an experienced Business Manager to support Research & Development to support our post-award R&D Finance Team at Barts Health NHS Trust.

The post holder will be an experienced team leader, with substantial experience of managing staff, working with the JRMO R&D Finance Team to support and develop the workforce, with responsibility for the oversight and management of the operational aspects of research financial administration and the provision of a first-class service to our research community in the Trust, Queen Mary University of London (academic partner) and other research organisations.

The post holder line manages three Band 7 Accounts Managers and their teams and works closely with the senior leadership team in R&D to oversee the effective operation of Research & Development.

Barts Health R&D operations - taking ownership for managing the daily business of hospital and group based research functions, dealing with unplanned events that arise and acting as the 'executing agent' for resolving issues. Finance - Managing the Finance leads to ensure the finance functions for R&D, with an income of £30m p.a are managed effectively, in line with the Trust’s SFIs.

Risk Management – managing the risk register relating to finance and business development for the R&D, ensuring that risks are updated on datix, are managed appropriately and escalated as required The post holder is also required to present the risk register for approval to the R&D SMT on a monthly basis.

Secretariat and Committee support – to provide secretariat and reports for R&D Finance working groups, Hospital and Trust Research Board, ensuring that all reports are submitted on time and that an action log and minutes are taken for each meeting, for sign off by the Chair.

Recruitment and Staffing- Ensuring that the appointment of core JRMO/R&D staff and research staff across the Trust is managed in line with agreed recruitment procedures and meets our policies for equality and inclusion.

Managing R&D’s staffing establishment to ensure that all new posts and vacancies are in line with budget and that R2Rs and e forms are raised in line with Trust policies and procedures.

To provide research within the Research & Intelligence team in support of DRM. Research is primarily focused on delivering research on strategic partners and their market sectors to inform and maximise the overall ongoing relationship with Defence.

5. Principal Areas of Accountability, Tasks and Duties

a. Maintain delivery of Research & Intelligence’s key outputs:

i. Conduct due diligence checks on organisations signing the AFC and those nominated for Silver and Gold ERS awards.

ii. Conduct DRM surveys, including the annual Satisfaction Survey and the Customer Satisfaction Survey, and provide statistical analysis of the results.

iii. Produce qualitative and quantitative research in response to DRM queries to underpin its operations and output, in addition to the production of proactive research outputs.

b. Providing direct support to the Senior Research Officer, including:

i. Support to commission, manage and monitor external research projects.

ii. Support to develop, standardise and improve DRM’s research processes, as well as identify new research sources pertaining to market research, logistics research, etc.

iii. Produce snapshots of industry sectors and organisational activity within them.

iv. Support in the regular refresh and validation of DRM Accounts, utilising appropriate research sources.

v. Utilise the Salesforce CRM system to provide supporting information e.g. on accounts, regional and sector data and contacts.

vi. Assist in the conducting of focus groups as required.

vii. Analyse complex data and conduct relevant statistical analysis on data in order to decipher key data trends, and subsequently construct appropriate recommendations from generated output.

In Chelsea, the case mix is predominantly complex major surgery across a wide range of specialities: upper gastrointestinal (oesophagectomy, gastrectomy), lower gastrointestinal (total pelvic exenteration, rectal and colonic resections), gynaecology (ovarian debulking, hysterectomy), urology (prostatectomy, cystectomy, nephrectomy), sarcoma (retroperitoneal sarcoma resection, melanoma and peripheral sarcoma resection), head and neck, and plastics (breast free flap reconstruction, pelvic reconstruction). There is a well-established robotic programme. Breast surgery and brachytherapy is also performed in Chelsea theatres, as well as adult vascular access (Portacath insertion). In Sutton, the case mix includes breast, sarcoma and plastics (typically day case procedures); there is also a vascular access service (adult and paediatric). Theatres are equipped with modern equipment and electronic anaesthetic charts. There is almost exclusive use of total intravenous anaesthesia, and depth of anaesthesia monitoring is available in every theatre, as well as videolaryngoscopes and fibreoptic scopes.

In addition to theatre activity, the department provides anaesthetic support for patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures and endoscopy at the Chelsea site as well as additional endoscopy at the newly opened Oak Cancer Centre in Sutton. At the Sutton site, consultants provide daily anaesthetic support for paediatric patients undergoing oncology procedures (radiotherapy, intrathecal chemotherapy, bone marrow aspirate) and imaging (MRI, MIBG scans).

The Royal Marsden operates as a specialist cancer hospital and together with its principal academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), is a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) for cancer.

The Royal Marsden and the ICR have a combined workforce of almost 6,000 people and are ranked as one of the top comprehensive cancer centres in the world for the impact of their research, seeing over 60,000 NHS and private patients every year and having nearly 1,000 clinical trials open to patients at any one time.

To follow the Information Team strategy of using Azure SQL/DataBricks/Palantir Foundry to return datasets from the Trusts Data Warehouse and support in the use of Qlik applications/Foundry to disseminate the results to the Trust To support where appropriate to developing integration of EHR and Research EDC (eCRF) systems to reduce duplicate data entry and increase efficiency and data quality. Communication and Relationships To receive, analyse and communicate a wide range of highly complex technical information to colleagues, including junior analysts and peers, where cooperation and comprehension is fundamentally necessary. To liaise with clinical and management leads to ensure there is regular provision of relevant information to support key work streams such as: o Research Strategy Board o meetings o Service Line Reporting (SLR) o Research Partner deliverables o Productivity and Efficiency o Clinical Outcome Benchmarking To communicate to Strategy leads, Financial and Operational managers, regarding the use and interpretation of the production process and content of Information Management data and reports using laymen terms; agreeing assumptions and showing how these can offer advantages in delivering against Trusts strategic objectives. To promote the corporate Patient Administration System (Cerner) as the principal source for data entry and analysis, working to improve data quality in conjunction with the related teams for data quality. To work with Head of Information to understand how to make best use of the analyst resource, coordinating pan organisation information processes and taking lead for delivery of strategic analysis and monitoring of compliance against Trust Performance Assurance Framework. To work in partnership with Lead Strategist, Business Analysts, Head of Financial Planning, Performance Managers and General Managers to ensure that clinical and research activity is being processed robustly so that Trust income is secured. To liaise with relevant staff within the Trust such as the Clinical Coding Team, Divisional Operational and Information/Data Warehouse teams to ensure that clinical and research data is reliably reportable in an accurate, complete, consistent and timely manner. Work closely with, and influence, key executive members across the Trust, including Divisional Directors, Director of Finance and Director of Strategy. Collaborate and work with Research Informatics leads at the Imperial AHSC, in North West London and on a national level to support the local contribution to large clinical and research data initiatives. To develop and analyse datasets on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Research to drive an increase of research participation from under-served communities. Knowledge, Training and Experience To use a highly developed specialist knowledge of NHS Data and Acute Informatics effectively within the Trust to stimulate an advancement of a research and business intelligence culture. To have a highly developed knowledge of systems used within the Information Team (e.g. Qlik, SQL) and be adaptable and able to learn about Research focussed information systems, and to be able to extract data from them, transform, cleanse and analyse it (e.g. PICIS, Lilie, EDGE, Datix etc). To provide guidance on national clinical benchmarking sources and data items catalogued in the NHS data dictionary. To be responsible for ensuring reporting tools and strategies continue to be relevant to performance for the Research department, evaluating and supporting contemporary information needs and supporting communication plans. To apply knowledge from previous modernisation projects and theoretical papers to identify risks and benefits to system changes. Planning and Organisational Skills To plan and organise strategic Information Management projects, creating datasets and using/supporting use of Qlik and Foundry as the Trusts main business intelligence tool. To reflect the wide range and complexity of healthcare and research provision, in community and acute care settings. This may include working collaboratively with different organisations (e.g. supporting information requirements for community services). The ability to understand complex requirements, data models and data flows will be essential, as will the ability to translate concepts into understandable and useable information for strategic, operational and clinical management. To respond to and prioritise ad-hoc requests for information from both the Research Department and research partners we work with, ensuring that information supplied is relevant, insightful and in an accurate, complete and timely fashion. To support the Head of Information in ensuring that procedures carried out are correctly documented and maintained in a transparent manner for all routine datasets, reports and investigating and performing a Root Cause Analysis into data processing issues that arise. Other Responsibilities To support the development and appropriate usage of Trust wide clinical information systems, including integration and full reconciliation with corporate systems. To attend regular divisional operational/business meetings and regional/national NHS Information Management meetings as and when required, as per instruction of the Head of Information. The post holder will be required to chair meetings when required by Head of Information. Maintains and protects patient confidentiality at all times and in accordance with the Data Protection Act and relevant Trust policies. Provides training and guidance to Strategy, Divisional Operational and Performance teams with regards to systems, standards and reporting. The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Professional (STEP) deliver a key part of the College’s provision with programmes ranging from Level 1 to Level 6 HE, including an extensive apprenticeship provision.

The School is divided into a number of sections, with these roles based in the Further Education Business Section. This section delivers a range of vocational Business BTEC Level 1 to Level 3 programmes together with T levels in Accounting and Finance.

We are now seeking two Lecturers, one to teach on a variety of Business courses and levels across the curriculum area, including but not limited to: BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3 and a Lecturer with an Accounting / Finance Specialism to teach primarily on the T-Level Finance and Accounting (Level 3) along with the BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3.

As Lecturer in Business (Accounting Specialism), you will take responsibility for the group tutorship of one or more of courses within the School and contribute to the development of existing and new provision, as well as the implementation of flexible and cost effective teaching and learning styles.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent teaching skills and relevant teaching experience on BTEC programmes in Business, across a range of levels. You will hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject and be able to support, motivate and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress.

With energy, enthusiasm and passion for the subject and education, you will have high personal standards and expectations and be aware of academic quality standards. A teaching qualification is not essential however we do ask that you are willing to achieve one in line with current regulations.
