You will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study feasibility and start-up to recruitment, delivery and to closure of a study. You will work alongside our multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality care and treatment is given to patients in line with trust protocols, and will collaborate with the wider research teams, to implement studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes. You should have comprehensive experience of Trust IT systems, especially Metavision, Jacs and eCamis.

As a Band 5 Research Nurse you will provide specialist research and clinical care to our participants within the scope of your education and training.You will take on the responsibility for managing and coordinating delegated research studies; getting involved with study set up, patient scheduling, booking assessments, carrying out patient visits, administering new novel treatments, data collection and data entry and facilitating communication with the patient and clinical team.You will be guided and mentored by our experienced senior research nurses to develop within your role providing gold standard care through the delivery of new and novel treatments.You will also provide clinical supervision to unregistered staff and students once you are comfortable within the role. The expectation is to provide high standard, research-based care to our patients whilst following the guidelines set out within the NMC, GCP and the Trust which ensures patient safety and data integrity. We are looking for an enthusiastic Nurse who is organised, self-motivated, compassionate and who aspires to further their career within clinical research.You will have oncology experience and ideally have experience of clinical research, although this is not essential for the role. Full research training will be given, via our excellent induction and ongoing educational programme.Team-working skills and flexibility will be required to ensure the success of this post.You will be delivering complex studies and therefore need to have an excellent level of written and verbal communication, backed up with excellent IT proficiency.You will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, implementing studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes. The CRF operates to support research across all specialities and brings together all areas engaged in clinical translational research (including the current Southampton NIHR CRF, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and NIHR CRUK Experimental Cancer Research Centre) .The NIHR CRF is part of a national network of CRFs with adult and paediatric capability. The CRF operates to MHRA phase 1 accreditation standards, the highest possible international quality standard. The post will provide unrivalled training in the management and conduct of clinical trials and experimental medicine, including early phase trials, and is suitable for those aiming for a clinical academic or primarily clinical career. Specific training will be given and expertise gained in research governance, quality assurance, rapid clinical trials set-up and timely delivery ensuring regulatory compliance and patient and volunteer safety. General Duties Provide a visible clinical profile, having an advisory and clinical input into the development of staff. Build and promote positive relationships with all stakeholders involved in practice education. Including, but not limited to education centre teams, clinical leads, subject specialists, simulated patients and external partners. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Up to 50% of the fellows time will be spent on research service provision providing medical support and cover to adult and paediatric studies occurring in the CRF, bone marrow transplant unit and at the Wessex Research Hubs in Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Weymouth. The remaining time will be available to be spent supervised by Dr Helena Lee or other Southampton clinical academic with the intention of providing the time and support for an application to be made for a formal externally funded research training fellowship and registration for study towards a higher degree (usually PhD or MD).
