Are you ready to help deliver a dynamic, internationally leading innovation and knowledge centre in alternative protein? Are you an exceptional operational leader with the ability to translate the NAPIC strategy into practical organisation-wide outcomes? We are looking for a Operations Director to join the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC). NAPIC is a £38m entity (including a £15m UKRI investment) to lead the UK’s alternative protein knowledge and Innovation ecosystem. NAPIC’s vision is to make alternative proteins mainstream for a sustainable planet. The centre is led by the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, Imperial College London and the James Hutton Institute, in collaboration with over 100 national and international partners. NAPIC is a cohesive pan-UK centre poised to revolutionise the UK’s agri-food sector by harnessing our world-leading science base through a co-created alternative protein strategy across the Discovery → Innovation → Commercialisation pipeline to support the transition to a sustainable, high growth, blended protein bioeconomy. NAPIC features four integrated activity streams: research to address innovation challenges; a national alternative protein knowledge base; workforce of the future; and accessible Innovation facilities.

NAPIC is currently undergoing an exciting investment in a number of senior roles across the four leading organisations. As the Operations Director located at the University of Leeds you will lead a highly dynamic Operational Management Team and report to the CEO of NAPIC. Working in close partnership with members of the Executive Management Board and other senior external stakeholders from industry and academia, you will lead a wide range of operational and strategic initiatives. You will be an experienced senior level leader, with a background in a scientific discipline (ideally interdisciplinary with an appreciation of natural, physical and social sciences), who can question, challenge and influence colleagues, lead change and deliver NAPIC objectives aligned with the NAPIC vision. Your approach will be considerate, open, persuasive and engaging, bringing key stakeholders along with you, ensuring strategic alignment and delivering the objectives. The ability to analyse data, distil and communicate relevant information and its context to colleagues and students from a wide range of backgrounds is an important aspect of this role. You will understand the impact of customer relationship management, building relationships and wider engagement are important aspects of the role.

You will actively take the lead role in all operational aspects of the NAPIC consortium to ensure the delivery of its scientific and translational strategy. You will develop and manage external relationships with academic and commercial partners, overseeing all budgetary aspects, and the delivery of funded projects and produce the consortium’s annual report for NAPIC. You will manage a highly functional operational team of Technology & Innovation Managers, Communication & Outreach Manager, Programme Manager, Skill & EDI Officer, Impact & Engagement Officer located across the four co-lead organisations.

The Joint Digital Policy Unit works across DHSC and NHSE to drive the digitally-and data-enabled transformation of health and social care, and the Secretary of State’s digital reform priorities. It sits as part of the wider NHS Transformation Directorate which brings together the former functions of NHSX, along with NHS Digital.

Our mission is to digitise, connect and transform the health and social care system. This means ensuring core digital capabilities are rolled out across the system – including digitised patient records and cyber security standards; connecting up our systems so that data can be safely shared to improve health and social care outcomes – for example, developing a Federated Data Platform and Secure Data Environments; and transforming models of care for patients, service users and the public – for example, developing the NHS App to act as the front door for the NHS, using technology to support care in the home; and creating the right environment for the adoption of innovation.

Job Role

The Deputy Director – Tech Policy, Implementation and Data Analytics sits in Digital Policy and Programmes directorate.

This division is at the heart of developing and implementing policy, enabling teams to drive forward DPU’s key priorities. It responds to
emerging priorities in health technology - picking up often urgent cross-cutting projects,msupporting the implementation of wider programmes, building policy capability across the NHSE’s Transformation Directorate, and carrying out key departmental functions on behalf of DHSC.

The division is at the heart of developing and implementing policy, enabling teams to drive forward DPU’s key priorities.

This is an exciting post, supporting government to delivery on its health objectives by digitally transforming the NHS. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic policy professional to lead the Tech Policy division of around 18 people.

Key Responsibilities

As Deputy Director – Tech Policy, Implementation and Data Analytics your key responsibilities will include:

• leading policy of several of the key delivery programmes in the Transformation Directorate, including electronic patient records, leading the division to provide expert policy input and engaging with Ministers;
• engaging with policy teams across the Department and NHSE to ensure that digital health is considered as a key enabler to their strategies and policy delivery, e.g. feeding into the 10-year plan for health and the SR;
• engaging internationally, both bilaterally and via the Global Digital Health Partnership and other multilateral fora, to learn from and work collaboratively with other countries;
• the DPU’s Implementation Unit, an internal consultancy service within the Directorate. It provides policy and implementation expertise to solve and support work on health and social care’s biggest digital and transformation challenges;
• the DPU’s internal data and analytics team – a small team comprising analysts and data scientists.

You will also, of course, play your role in leading the wider DPU as part of a cadre of around 10 other DDs and Band 9s.

Working together the two RRDN Health & Care Research Directors (one Medic and one Nurse, Midwife or Allied Health Professional, (NMAHP)) will be the senior officers responsible for working with health and care professional leaders to support the development of research delivery leadership and associated staff. They will play a key leadership role in the on-going engagement, development and oversight in their respective communities of practice. They will also coordinate the work of the regional RRDN Specialty and Settings Leads. The Medical Health & Care Research Director will coordinate the RRDN Specialty Leads and the NMAHP Health & Care Research Director will coordinate the RRDN Settings Leads. The purpose of the RDN is to support the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy. The RRDN Health & Care Research Directors will support this purpose by developing and maintaining positive and constructive relationships with health and care leaders in the RRDN region to ensure capacity and capability of the professional research workforce and facilitate cross-specialty and cross-setting collaborations and research. In collaboration with the RRDN Strategic Development Director the RRDN Health & Care Research Directors will assist the development of the RRDN 3 year Strategic Plan. This plan will be in line with the national RDN strategic priorities and initiatives but translated into deliverable priorities for the RRDN region. Working with the clinical communities of practice, they will identify workforce development opportunities and thereby assist in increasing the research capacity and capability within the region and nationally, with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the life sciences industry (across both commercial contract and commercial collaborative research). In collaboration with the RRDN Operations Directors they will coordinate the provision of expert proactive advice regarding study design to optimise deliverability and assist in the identification of sites and Principal Investigators, and provide reactive advice and support where study delivery or performance is an issue. The RRDN Health & Care Research Directors will work with the new NIHR Regional Research Leadership Offices (RRLOs) to develop complementary activities regarding strategic workforce development for the aligned aim of increasing research capacity and capability, the RRLO having a focus on the clinical academic community. Alongside their regional responsibilities the RRDN Health & Care Research Directors will co-develop and lead national programmes of work in collaboration with the RDN Coordinating Centre (RDNCC).

About the role

• Leading a team of care home managers, you will give them all the support they need to deliver excellent customer service, high quality standards for our residents, and strong leadership for our people

• Working across all homes in your region, you will ensure each one provides high standards of customer care and services in line with company policy, customer expectations, service level agreements and current legislation

• You will manage home performance, conducting monthly reviews to drive key areas such as occupancy levels, commercial awareness, customer focus, quality standards, people management and hours management. You’ll also carry out monthly internal quality audits, ensuring external regulatory requirements and internal processes and procedures are followed

• It’s likely that a substantial amount of travel will be required, including occasional overnight stays and some evening commitments.
