The Allington Centre is a 20 bed low secure inpatient service for forensic services serving the community of Kent and Medway. We specialise in the assessment and treatment of adults with complex mental health needs, who require care in a low secure setting, in response to offending, risky and/or challenging behaviours.

The Healthcare Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary care team and will have continuing responsibility as follows:

Under limited supervision from a senior associate worker, qualified nurse, occupational therapist or the nurse in charge, deliver an effective and competent level of care, which is determined by the patients care plan.
• Supervise the care given by band 2 healthcare workers.
• Be fully aware of the needs of patients over a 24hr span of care.

Support the work of the multidisciplinary team
• Consistently delivering a patient focused service, which promotes optimum independence.
• Offering appropriate support and advice to the patients.
• Recording accurately all care given as required.
• Enable patients to maintain and improve their independence by promoting active involvement in the therapeutic activity programme.
• Noting and reporting accurately any care given and/or information required by the nurse in charge.
• Give physical care as required or instructed.
• Promote patient’s appearance and personal hygiene by offering support/advice in self care and ensuring that suitable toiletries are available.
• Promote a healthy, safe and secure environment by adhering to Trust statutory health and safety requirements and maintain confidentiality of information at all times in compliance with the Trust Policies.
• Assist patients to maintain a clean and healthy ward environment and assist them in all aspects of daily living skills as required.

The Inpatient Learning Disability Services are part of the Forensic & Specialist Directorate and specialises in the assessment and intervention of people who have a learning disability/mental illness, and/or who are autistic and have committed offences requiring inpatient care.

The service provides 33 inpatient beds across 2 units on the same site.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Occupational Therapy and Multidisciplinary team.

This post would suit an experienced clinician looking for a new challenge. You would work closely with the senior practitioner to continually develop the programme of interventions, using evidence-based practice. You would also hold a clinical caseload of complex clients, as well as promoting the profession through clinical governance.

The post holder would need experience of at least 2 years as an Occupational Therapist, ideally with experience with learning disabilities, autism, mental health or in a forensic setting, and would need to be enthusiastic, motivated and prepared to work under supervision as well as work autonomously.
• To ensure assessment of service users and analyse and interpret information gained to form an accurate formulation of function, strengths, capabilities and occupational needs.
• To work collaboratively with service users, staff, and carers to identify goals to determine and deliver an appropriate intervention/recovery plan which maximises occupational engagement and performance whilst balancing risk, and promoting choice and independence.
• To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic interventions in order to measure progress and increase efficacy for the best possible service user outcomes and experience.
• To act as an experienced clinician supporting best practice in line with NICE guidance and professional standards
• To demonstrate clinical leadership skills through the management of dedicated projects and approved quality improvement initiatives
• To provide supervision to junior staff and students.

Clinical responsibilities To be an advanced critical care practitioner, providing clinical support to all staff on shift on a daily basis, giving advice and rationalising changes in therapy. Demonstrate ability to support Outreach to provide critical care to patients in escalation areas and areas outside of the critical care environment.
