What You'll Be Doing:

• Responsible for overseeing the facilities/real estate function in an independent corporation on a global basis.

Our Substation Site Prep Planner is ideal for entry level and seasoned professionals with an educational background in construction, engineering, or related disciplines and with experience in these fields and line of work.

This position oversees the construction work on site associated with site preparation for new substations and the expansion of existing stations.  This work begins with installing E&S Controls and includes clearing, grading, fills and/or cuts, removal of unsuitable soils and installation of suitable material, installation of storm water management systems per the site plans, which may include plunge pools, retention ponds or rip-rap slopes, coordinating delivery of materials and equipment to be delivered on site. Familiarity or experience with a SWPPP book, and the ability to read civil construction drawings is a plus.  Monitor and assist with substation, and forestry activities associated with new construction and future utility lines. Ensure safe work practices, quality, and efficiency while meeting target dates while ensuring compliance with environment/agricultural requirements prescribed in laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.

• Manage the overall construction activities on assigned projects, including but not limited to material management, construction (EPC) and logistics efforts for a large scaled program consisting of multiple EPC/Design Build and Logistics contractors for an investor-owned electric utility in north-eastern United States.
• Responsible for the development of and/or review of construction plans, outage coordination, commissioning planning and safety planning.
• Interfaces directly with the client to report progress, costs, schedule and risks across a portfolio of transmission and distribution project.
• Interfaces with multiple Project Managers, schedulers, project controllers and engineers that oversee direct assigned work to general and logistics contractors.
• Conducts on site construction management briefings and prepare reports reflecting project status, schedule and project uncertainties.
• Consistently communicate and work with ease across multiple program and function support areas including: client, EPC project teams, functional leadership, subcontractors, and support personnel.
• Ensures compliance with utility client standards and processes.
• Responsible for contractor evaluations, project reconciliations and close out activities following completion of projects.
• Oversee various and specific proposal development efforts that accurately defines the project scope, schedule and budgets.
• May be required to work extended work hours during certain phases of construction efforts and as project requirements may dictate.
• Provide storm outage support (emergency response planning).
• Write comprehensive and technical and project reports 

Background Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business; Relevant experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
• Demonstrated experience in construction operations for electrical projects
• Experience with high-voltage overhead and underground transmission & distribution lines
• Must demonstrate expertise in recent electric power infrastructure projects with expert knowledge in managing large scaled Transmission and Distribution Programs.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
• Local & Regional travel are required, so candidates must possess a Valid US Driver's License

• Standard Level: A minimum of four (4) + years of relevant experience in construction operations for electric utility projects
• Senior Level: A minimum of eight (8) + years of relevant experience in construction operations for electric utility projects

• Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.

• Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.

• May grease, oil, and repair tractor. 

Education

Construction Manager Primary Responsibilities

• Ensure general contractor complies with FAA Environmental, Safety, and Health policies
• Supervise construction of FAA projects on-site and provide quality assurance that completed work is in compliance with the plans and specifications
• Maintain accurate daily records of work accomplished, personnel onsite, weather conditions and other essential details
• Act as point of contact and coordinate directly with the general contractor
• Monitor progress against accepted construction schedule, review the general contractor’s progress reports, assess the progress and inform all stakeholders
• Discuss deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with project engineer
• Mark up drawings to as-built conditions and submit these for review and updating
• Participate in construction inspections, final inspections, and contract close-out activities
• Conduct regular progress meetings with the general contractor and appropriate personnel
• Prepare sketches, site specific specifications, contract documents and independent cost estimates as needed to support change proposals
• Perform project management related tasks and communication (including operational risk management plans, safety plans, sequence of work and cutover plans)
• Coordinate and review work permits required for potential hazards such as lead and asbestos that may be encountered during construction
• Review contractor shop drawings and construction submittals and provide input to engineering staff
• Track, reconcile and coordinate closure of acceptance punchlist
• Other duties as assigned

Construction Manager Basic Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience in commercial, industrial or government facilities construction/maintenance or a Master's degree with 4 years of relevant experience
• Experience with construction methods, plans and specifications, building materials, national consensus codes, and quality management
• Ability to tactfully coordinate with a variety of project stakeholders, peers and management levels
• Working knowledge of office productivity software such as MS Word and MS Excel
• Must be able to pass an in-depth government background check (Public Trust)
• May occasionally be required to work an alternate schedule such as nights/weekends to meet the needs of the construction project
• Must be able to pass drug screening
• Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs such as those found in Air Traffic Control towers
• May be exposed to challenging environmental conditions such as remote locations, sun, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, and confined spaces.
• May occasionally be required to wear fall protection systems to access work area
• Job requires bending, stooping, twisting, turning, and working in unusual positions requiring full body mobility.

• Prior construction supervisory experience
