One of our key clients are currently looking for an Estimator to join their rapidly expanding team based in Bracknell. The ideal candidate will have previous experience within commercial fit outs.

Job Description

• Carrying out all estimating company wide for both Maintenance and Projects division, ranging for £1k - £1million
• Analyse and evaluate project specifications and drawings
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate cost planning
• Monitor project progress and provide regular cost reports and valuations
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering solutions
• Carrying out site visits, surveys and take offs

Ideally/Must have

• Commercial construction knowledge with fit outs
• Strong knowledge of cost control principles and techniques

Role: Contract Strategic Commercial Lead / Quantity Surveyor

Location: Reading, West Berkshire – hybrid working

We are seeking an experienced Pre-Contract Strategic Commercial Lead to guide the commercial and procurement aspects of major construction projects. In this key role, you will be responsible for planning and managing costs and budgets across the RIBA lifecycle, ensuring that procurement aligns with project goals, timelines, and budgets.

You will also oversee the development and implementation of NEC contracts, contract cost models, and performance management approaches, securing value for money and high-quality standards through careful evaluation and negotiation of tenders.

Ideal candidates will bring a background in complex infrastructure projects—particularly within sectors such as Defence, Nuclear, or Utilities—and possess experience in public contract regulations, commercial risk management, and contractor performance incentivisation. Chartered or actively working towards MRICS accreditation is essential.

Key accountabilities:

Cost and budget planning through the RIBA lifecycle in preparation for procurement of major construction.
Collation of NEC forms of contract and other commercial documents for procurement.
Development of contract cost models and performance management and incentivisation approaches for use in the contract documentation, ensuring these comply with the project brief, timescales, budget estimates, all relevant contractual requirements, legislation and regulations.
Own the commercial evaluation and negotiation of tenders, by measuring, validating, benchmarking tenderers proposals, to enhance value for money, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality.
Capturing, recording, and utilising cost data for use on future procurements reporting into the Estimating Benchmarking database.
Identify commercial opportunities and mitigate risks during the procurement phase to deliver a sound contract for contract award.

Essential:

Complex major construction experience.
Knowledge of or experience working within public contract regulations environment.
Experience within Defence, Nuclear, Utilities or other related infrastructure environment.
Chartered or working towards MRICS or other related qualification.
Cost and budget planning through the RIBA lifecycle.
Ability to design Contractor performance management and incentivisation approaches.
Experience in the commercial evaluation and negotiation of tenders to assess and deliver value of money.
Ability to identify commercial opportunities and mitigate risks during the procurement phase.

We are looking for a Low Voltage to High Voltage Lead Electrical Construction Fitter to join our team!

Base Location: Basingstoke, West London, Slough, Reading, Swindon, Oxford, Melksham, Yeovil, Andover, Poole, New Forest, Portsmouth, Petersfield or Aldershot

SSEN are looking to hire an LV/HV Electrical Lead Construction Fitter to be based in any location in our Southern region.

You'll be part of a great team that is there to help and support each other. An environment where you are encouraged to suggest improvements and where safety is our number one priority.

The key responsibilities will include:

- Working in a team responsible for constructing electrical apparatus within substations on the electricity distribution network from 11kV up to 132kV.

- Safe delivery of construction projects in live electricity substation environments in line with operational safety rules and safety legislation. This will also include emergency response to fault scenarios.

- Installation of fixed relays onto existing relay panels. Installation and commissioning of CT Metering apparatus.

- Act as an ambassador for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks when interacting with external and internal customers to deliver world class customer service and protect the SSE brand.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience of working in live electricity substation environments from 11kV - 132kV.

- Previous experience will include working on DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable terminating and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CT's/VT's to marshalling kiosks and control panels, AC/DC wiring and replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators. The ability to read and interpret single line wiring diagrams and cable ferruling.

- A high regard for safety, especially on construction sites and CDM regulations with strong customer service skills.

- Previous electricity network operational authorisations would be extremely beneficial as would training and qualifications in scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld, working at height, confined space, asbestos, COSHH, Loler and SMSTS.

- A clean driving licence and a flexible approach to working hours and work location is a must because the role will involve extensive travel throughout our network area.

• Carry out and record the results / outcome of weekly, monthly, and other cyclical checks, testing and maintenance routines, including but not limited to Fire Alarm testing, Emergency Lighting testing, Smoke Ventilation system testing and Lift Line testing.
• Ensuring maintenance tasks are meticulously completed and recorded in the relevant systems.
• Undertake maintenance tasks not limited to but including - bin movements, refuse chute / area maintenance, light bulb replacement, painting, decorating, plaster repairs, minor internal and external maintenance repairs to hard surfaces and soft services.
• Ensure all tools are maintained and kept securely, only used by authorised personnel.
• Pressure wash / clean areas of the development as and when needed.
• Carry out any touch up paint work in communal areas within the buildings, as and when required.
