You will help the organisation gain a clearer understanding of how our buildings are used, providing recommendations for investment, disposal, and income generation. Additionally, you will conduct strategic options appraisals to evaluate the future use of key Council facilities, using your initiative and creativity to shape the Council’s future property portfolio.

In addition to your time in the office or working from home, you will be out in the community meeting with council occupiers, commercial tenants and inspecting our properties.

Key responsibilities…

You will negotiate various property related transactions to achieve agreed outcomes.
You will prepare corporate asset management policies and individual property plans for both operational and commercial asset portfolios.

You will manage projects to create new Council facilities through refurbishment or development, including flexible office accommodation, community centres, libraries or premises for delivering specialist services such as services to vulnerable people.

You will manage the performance of contractors and consultants and when needed, independently create and implement programme measures or performance management systems to ensure delivery is completed to acceptable standards.
You will be responsible for the procurement of contracts and services to support the Property Team in line with the Council’s contract procedure rules and public sector procurement guidelines and best practice.

In order to be successful, you will ideally hold a degree qualification in Quantity Surveying and have an understanding of NEC3 and/or NEC4 forms of contract. In addition, you will be able to work to deadlines and possess excellent communication skills. Finally, you will be able to work as part of a team and be able to time-manage.

Your new role

• Project Scope and Objectives:
  • Determine and define the scope and objectives of the fit-out project.
  • Understand the client's requirements and expectations.
• Resource Management:
  • Predict the resources needed to achieve project objectives.
  • Efficiently manage resources, including personnel, materials, and equipment.
• Budget Preparation and Control:
  • Prepare a budget based on the scope of work and resource requirements.
  • Track project costs to ensure they align with the budget.
• Coordination and Communication:
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Keep the senior management team informed of project progress.
• Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that work meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Address any deviations promptly.
• Timelines and Deadlines:
  • Oversee project timelines and milestones.
  • Manage project schedules to meet deadlines.

What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will ideally have experience managing high-end pop-up retail store projects or high end bespoke fitout projects. Candidates who have not had experience within the two fields will unfortunately not be considered.

What will I be doing?

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be working on large Education, Commercial, and industrial projects valued between £10m and £100m based in the Midlands & Lower Yorkshire.

Senior Quantity Surveyor responsibilities:

• Preparation of bills and/or schedules for quantities of materials, labour and services required
• Cost reporting.
• Preparation and valuation of progress and submission to client.
• Sub-contract procurement including sending out enquiries, collating prices, negotiation, order placement.
• Sub-contract valuations and payments in connection with any contract.
