We’re now recruiting for a talented Assistant Building Surveyor who’ll support RPS by carrying out property inspections for Riverside Group’s customers, arranging remedial works and post inspecting completed works. These will include damp, mould and condensation, minor structural and major repairs inspections.

The difference you will make as an Assistant Building Surveyor
Part of a local team supporting Surveyor activities and requirements of our Housing operations, ensuring all surveying procedures are being undertaken efficiently, in compliance with Company operating procedures and delivering best in class customer service, satisfying all safety, quality and cost control standards. The role will involve a close working relationship with Building Surveyors, Site Supervisors and members of the Customer Care Team.

You will have experience of building surveying preferably within social housing and a proven track record of working in a customer focused environment. You will assist in providing workable and cost-effective solutions to company and client that will enhance living conditions for service users.
Role Profile
- Carry out inspections, building pathology and root cause diagnosis to complete the technical survey of residential properties
- Produce costings for required works, in line with the agreed pricing framework, ensuring quality standards and value for money principles are adhered to, escalating for budget approval as appropriate.
- Record outcomes of inspections, including costings, escalating the required information via agreed channels, within set timescales and using agreed reporting tools, highlighting the programme of repair works required to mitigate risks identified.
- Undertake quality assurance inspections of completed works, identifying any shortfalls in statutory and regulatory standards, ensuring further repair works are planned and carried out until standards are met and customer expectations are managed appropriately
- Maintain accurate records, including outcomes of inspections & before and after photos, using appropriate systems and databases, ensuring the integrity and quality of data to enable regular analysis to be carried out and reporting to be completed
- Provide accurate information to key stakeholders as required, including the relevant Supervisor to support performance reviews and decision making.
- Manage enquiries effectively, providing clear, supportive and accurate advice or signposting as appropriate, escalating complaints and complex queries via the appropriate channels to ensure effective resolution.
- Manage internal and external stakeholders effectively, including colleagues and customers providing advice and support and building constructive working relationships as appropriate.
- Ensure internal business processes are followed in line with Group’s policy, procedures and statutory requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
- Respond flexibly to any necessary changes in work priorities and undertake other duties when required to support the effective operation of the service.

Person specification
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Working towards HNC/HND in construction / building services.
- Experience of building surveying and Damp/Mouldrac
- Proven track record of working in a customer focused environment.
- Basic knowledge of construction methods.
- Basic knowledge of Building Regulations, Health & Safety and other statutory/regulatory standards.
- Basic knowledge of CDM requirements.
- Basic commercial acumen.
- Knowledge of SOR’s.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Proven Skills & Knowledge in the following:
- Interpersonal and communication;
- Strong customer focus;
- Problem solving & results orientated;
- Planning and organizational skills;
- IT literate with confident oral and written communication skills.
Desirable
- Educated to degree level in construction / building services.
- Experience of working in social housing and in partnership with a local authority client.
- Managing, monitoring, recording and reporting of Health & Safety and compliance.
- Asbestos identification and actions.
- Experience in construction or building industry
- Contract management system competency.
