An opportunity is available for a Senior Design Technician to join one of the UK's most prominent timber frame specialists.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To deliver an efficient Timber Frame design service that enables effective fabrication and construction of timber structural frames. To ensure that all working processes and practices are undertaken safely, efficiently and in accordance with the company's management systems and procedures.
To be able to take client drawings & generate RFIS to purify design & supply & highlighting any changes which may have a commercial or time sensitive impact whilst working to an agreed preconstruction programme.
Generate accurate timber frame manufacture & construction drawings & schedules using the CAD & Consultec Software.
To support the development of the design team & assist with checking of designers work as necessary with the design department.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The role is fully accountable for the delivery of a competent and efficient design service on various projects, in accordance with company standards, systems and procedures, ensuring effective performance for the business from the following areas.
* Agreeing design programmes and budgets and delivering against these
* Coordinating external structural engineering and design input on commercially as required
* Managing the production of fabrication and construction drawings and schedules
* Supporting the design office manager with the mentoring & overseeing of the design team as necessary.
DUTIES:
The Senior Design Technician will be responsible for their own projects demonstrating the values and culture of the company. They will;
* Instil a "work safe" culture via action and words and ensure risk assessments and where appropriate method statements are in place and implemented.
* To be able to project manage & coordinate design information through the design process from concept to completion.
* To be able to raise ''Request for Information Schedules'' purifying any items which may have a commercial or timeline impact on the project.
* Work to an agreed Preconstruction program along with monitoring design costs & durations as agreed at the outset.
* To produce accurate Timber frame drawings & schedules for both construction & manufacture using Auto Cad & consultec software.
* To be able to work on a wide variety of projects varying from housing to commercial projects, including education & health care buildings, hotels & closed panel projects.
* To be able to support with the development of technical details & standard detail updates.
* To be actively assist with the mentoring & support of the design department, by encouraging, checking for over seeing trainees as & when required.
* Actively seek continuous improvement to deliver "zero defects"
* Ensure the awareness and implementation of and compliance with the Quality, Health & Safety and Human Resource Policies and Procedures, with any doubts being raised with your Direct Line Manager.
TASKS AND FUNCTIONS:
The role holder will ensure that their functional accountabilities are executed appropriately through but not limited to the following tasks;
1. Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, building standards and relevant statutory requirements.
2. Completing drawings, specification and any other documentation to the required standards within previously agreed timescales.
3. Ensuring all drawings and specifications are accurate before issue & assist with checking of others work as necessary.
4. Liaise directly with the Client as requested by the Design Manager or when necessary, noting all relevant conversations and passing this information to the relevant person/file within the Company.
5. Ensure all written and computer work/input is completed accurately and within required timescales and that records are maintained.
6. Produce reports as required by the Design Manager accurately and within relevant timescales.
7. Attend meetings timeously as and when required given suitable notice.
8. Report any job related problems/issues to the Design Manager as appropriate.

5. You have the authority to stop any work or action that you deem to be unsafe or places the health status of an individual at risk.
6. Ensure that the area in which you are working is safe for yourself and others who may be working nearby and that you and your subordinates comply with your responsibilities in accordance with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
7. Report any accident/near misses immediately to the Health & Safety Manager or to the Commercial Manager.
8. Maintain good housekeeping within your work area.
