Applications are invited for an AV Store Technician within the Technical Support department at the Glasgow School of Art on a 1 year, fixed term basis with a start date in January 2025.

We are seeking an AV Store Technician who will enjoy working in a creative and dynamic educational environment. The successful candidate will be assigned to the Digital Media team. Duties will be to provide an effective and efficient equipment-loan service for the Technical Support Department and be responsible for the day to day stock control, loan-procedures & maintenance of the departmental video, audio, presentation and other related equipment. The role-holder will also be available to advise on stock and non-stock items and to process purchase requisitions.

You should be qualified to HND level or have equivalent experience in a relevant area including experience in the safe operation and basic maintenance of A/V & A/V related equipment: video cameras, DSLRs, audio recorders & microphones, tripods & stands, projectors, media players, etc. with an understanding of the creative use of this equipment.

Your New Role

You will join the team as a Principal Electrical Engineer. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the Electrical team within the Glasgow office.
• Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
• Design and specification of all Electrical Building Services systems
• Conducting site surveys, inspections and monitoring of site works.
• Report and technical note writing.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, codes and standards.
• Lead projects from a design and commercial perspective, dealing with budgets, timelines etc.
• Contributing to the growth of the electrical team, including conducting candidate interviews.
• Contributing towards business development and strategy.

What you'll need to succeed

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership) with CIBSE or IET.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience within Electrical Building Services Design.
• An excellent technical level with engineering softwares such as Amtech, Relux, Dialux, etc.
• A detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to work on your own as well as within a wider multidisciplinary team.
• You must be eligible to obtain a security clearance due to MOJ/MOD contracts.

About the role
The Technology Strategy team within our Information Services directorate is only two years old but is already making a difference at the University of Glasgow, bringing new insight and thinking to the challenges and opportunities facing our students, researchers, and staff.

The Senior Solution Architect is in the strategic driving seat of some of our most impactful and high-profile projects, such as driving student success through CRM, developing and delivering a diverse and dynamic curriculum, and embracing AI to deliver engaging learning experiences and new insights and possibilities. Shaping the design and delivery of the building blocks of our students, researchers, and staff's success, you'll work with colleagues at all levels across the university directly on the initiatives that matter to them most, illuminating opportunities and risks and bringing fresh perspective and insight.
