The project this role is being recruited for is a £20 million Two-Stage Design & Build education complex in Kent.

The role:

As the Design Manager you will be a key person that is instrumental in the company's ongoing success and will be

• Reporting to the Contracts Manager in conjuction with the Head of Design and working alongside other Design Managers within the business.
• Producing design programmes, design scopes, design responsibility matrices, appointments and schedules.
• Responsible for the management and delivery of design information in line with agreed design programme and deliverable schedule for projects due to commence on site and in progress.
• Ensuring appointed Design Consultants and Engineers carry out their duties in accordance with their appointment.
• Attending and chairing necessary meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Value Engineering to achieve desired outcomes and maximise project profitability.
• Working collaboratively with commercial and delivery teams.
• Ensure design is compliant with planning conditions and legislative requirements.

To be successful in this role:

• Previous experience of working within the Department for Education construction framework.
• Previous experience in the same or similar role is essential for either a developer, contractor or consultancy.
• Be able to manage the design process for your project autonomously.
• Sound technical knowledge of design packages and ability to input at key project stages including consultant selection, procurement and project delivery.
• Educated to degree level or HNC/HND in a relevant discipline.
• Experience of working on multiple projects running concurrently with values in excess of £5m would be an advantage but not essential.

Requirements of the successful Design Manager include:

• Experience within the Civil Engineering Industry
• HNC or equivalent, ideally in Civil Engineering
• CSCS card

• Able to create, read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings

Such as creating briefs for each of the projects you will be working on, making sure you are consistent with the company needs. These designs need to make sure the meet the standards and requirements for the company. You will be expected to manage the budgets and the completion time of the project within the design. You will also have to be diligent in checking projects for consistency with the designs and their quality.

The benefits -

This role comes with a Generous Salary of £70,000. However the real benefits will come form working for such an established company with such a great reputation. You will be working within a Tier 1 Design Team, meaning you will benefit from the knowledge and experience of your team around you.
