Role & Responsibilities:

The role is to work with the mechanical engineering design team to support the development of plastic elements within the disposable set and on the retained unit of both products. The post holder will contribute to the creation of specifications for parts and assemblies through the process including testing, analysis and risk evaluation, etc. The post holder will be required to work closely with suppliers and internal operations team to ensure the products are fit for manufacture. Description/Overall purpose of the Job

We are seeking two Apprentice Design Engineers to provide assistance on mechanical design solutions on a wide range of Airbus helicopters for integration of mission equipment ranging from external loads to internal cabin configuration. In this junior role you will develop skills in order to progress to become a Mechanical Design Engineer.

As part of the Apprenticeship you will study and work towards a Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths (If required), Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Technical Knowledge), Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) and Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship. You will attend college 1 day per week during term time to complete this, and we will support you and allow you time to focus on the qualification at other times as and when required. The college learning will be based at one of the Abingdon & Witney based colleges.

• Developing cost effective design solutions to technical and commercial requirements placed on the design office

• Undertaking mechanical design i.a.w. the design office procedures as directed by the Chief Mechanical Design Engineer or his Deputy

• To develop a set of skills to allow progression to Mechanical design Engineer role with support from team members

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of Micro Machining and High Speed Imaging systems

In this role you will be expected to be creative and innovative in the generation of concepts and detailed designs using 3D CAD and FEA simulation tools. Your responsibilities will include the generation of drawings and MRP data for both internal and external customers using approved procedures and processes.

Responsibilities
This is a wide-ranging role in mechanical design

" Produce concept and detailed designs using 3D CAD ensuring that solutions are fit for purpose and cost effective.
" Use FEA tools to simulate mechanical behaviour
" Generate and amend drawings and documentation to appropriate standards including BS8888
" Investigate and define answers to design problems via NCR's and ECR's
" Generate and maintain detailed BoM's
" To work in accordance with safety procedures detailed within the Health and Safety manual, taking care to avoid injury to themselves and others at work.
" Working to the highest professional standards both in house and at customers sites

Education,

Experience & Skills
Essential " A minimum of 5 year's experience working in a mechanical design role in a high technology company
" Experience of using 3D CAD packages. AutoCAD Inventor and Vault would be an advantage
" Experience of MRP systems and BoM maintenance
" Degree level of education preferred but not essential

Desirable " An understanding on aspects of mechanical engineering, including structural analysis.
" An understanding of materials, treatments and finishes, and their environmental implications
" A proven ability to support change within an organisation

Description/Overall purpose of the Job

As the Principle Avionics Design Engineer you will come from a strong avionic and electrical design background. Ultimately you will hold responsibility for all avionic and electrical designs for both new customisation projects as well as retrofit projects. As Principle Avionic Engineer you are responsible for the career mentorship of the avionic design engineer team.

Main responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for all avionic and electrical design work.

• Avionics Compliance Verification Engineering.

• Liaise with other project stakeholders to resolve relevant design issues.

• Ensuring all design work is compliant to UK or UK Military regulation.

• Overall responsibility for providing avionic and electrical contribution to project timelines, estimates and quotes.

• Overall responsibility for the development avionic and electrical design engineers to meet business needs

• Responsible for avionic and electrical design procedures seeking to provide cost effective design solutions and develop new procedures to meet evolving requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Proven track record with avionic integration design to EASA, UK or UK Military standards

• Sound understanding of the aircraft system and software safety analysis process

Education, Qualifications or Training

Essential

• Relevant degree in Aerospace engineering, preferably within avionics

or

• Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent training, preferably with avionics

Experience

Essential

• 10 – 15 years’ experience of working within design- or engineering environment with avionic/electrical and mission system integration

• Previous experience with CVE as well as acting as avionic and electrical signatory 

• Previous experience of designing with AutoCAD and Enovia SmarTeam

Desirable

• Previously held a senior design role

• Cost (OTC) monitored via adherence to planned budget.

• Quality (OTQ - Design) monitored via number of design query notes requiring rework.

• Quality (OTQ – Compliance) monitored via successful compliance verification

Additional requirements 

• Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.

• Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.

• Successful candidate to attain UK Government National Security Vetting to SC clearance level within 6 months of starting the role
