This post is designed to strengthen the midwifery contribution to the public health agenda for women and families in Islington, Haringey and others outside these Boroughs who choose Whittington Health for their maternity care. Specifically, setting in place strategies and frameworks to address inequalities in health and access to health care for vulnerable women. The post holder will provide clinical leadership; advice and support to all colleagues providing midwifery care in primary and secondary care settings. S/he will be an expert practitioner and source of expertise for the multi-professional and organisational team involved in providing health care for pregnant women from vulnerable groups. The Midwife Consultant for Public Health and Education will contribute some time to midwifery clinical practice. The expectations of this post will be met through professional leadership, consultancy, education and training, research, audit and evaluation, practice and service development. The focus of the role is to use midwifery expertise to define the public health role of the midwife, incorporating pre-conception advice, health promotion, services to support pregnant teenagers, smoking cessation, the effects and implications of domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, breastfeeding rates, parenting skills, postnatal examination, mental health, child protection and womens health. Job Summary: The post holder will be a member of the Community Childrens Dietetic SEND Team. This will include the review of patients at appropriate intervals according to prioritising criteria and clinical judgement To undertake multidisciplinary assessment and review of patients To collaborate with SEND team members and the wider MDT and carry out extended roles to ensure that patients receive care and advice on all aspects of feeding at home To agree care plans with patients and/ or carers to help meet their nutrition-related goals To work in a variety of community settings, advising patients, carers, health and social care professionals by telephone, virtually and face to face. This could be in a patients own homes, nurseries, schools or child development centres To work autonomously when assessing patients, making clinical decisions, and evaluating outcomes of dietetic interventions asking for advice and support when required To advise on and order specialist nutritional and enteral feeding products as required To accurately document and record data for all activities concerning patient care in accordance with the Trust and SEND Team policies.
