PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
**This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Personal Trainers. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the needs of the position. Hourly Rate: $22.00 Hourly
This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
This posting is collecting applications for both the Aurora Center for Active Adults and the Beck Recreation Center.
Certified personal trainer available weekday mornings, to work one-on-one with clients and teach classes. The ideal candidate has experience working with a variety of clients, especially older adults.
The city is currently seeking an individual with this same view to perform a variety of tasks that support the Fitness and Wellness program for the city of Aurora including personal training and class instruction of various levels of fitness:
- Available for clients, classes, and special events on weeknights and weekends
- Develop and lead workouts for a range of clients including individual, small group, and large group settings
- Demonstrate a good understanding of physical fitness, exercise science, client safety, exercise instruction and feedback, and general nutrition
- Responsible for own choreography and design of exercise class and fitness programs
- Effective communication with participants and instructors and available to discuss questions and concerns
- Responsible for coordinating directly with clients when scheduling personal training sessions and keeping client forms and sessions up to date.
- Set up of equipment and music prior to class, break down equipment following class
- Responsible for finding substitutes and notifying the fitness office
- Responsible for own time cards
- Perform minor first aid and emergency contact if needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education/Experience:
- Equivalent training and experience that will demonstrate required knowledge, abilities and skills.
Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of body mechanics helpful
Skills:
- Skill in safe and effective fitness technique instruction and emergency response
- Previous experience in youth fitness is a plus but not required
Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a safe environment at work site
Licenses, Certifications, or Equipment Required:
- Current NCCA accredited Personal Trainer Certification and/or specialty fitness certifications.
- Adult CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; regular walking and standing; regular climbing, bending, kneeling, and crouching; hand/foot/eye coordination to perform and demonstrate appropriate fitness skills; vision to read instructions; hearing and speech communication for communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:
- Works primarily indoors with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water, and other conditions found in a fitness environment.
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
Equipment Used:
- Operates equipment related to fitness classes and personal training
